Help! Was I Slapped/De-Indexed ForeveR?

Alright so over the past 2 months I've been building backlinks for a particular article in the highly competitive penis enlargement niche. About 2 weeks ago it reached position one for it's term... but a week later it was dropped to page 2 and my traffic plummeted. Last week I submitted a copy (did not re-write) of the article to 10 other directories, all of which linked back with anchor text to the original article. I figured duplicate content would not be an issue because the 150-200 backlinks to the EZA version should solidify that as the primary soure. I then also social bookmarked the article to about 20 sites.

Two days later it dissappeared... appearing to be completely de-indexed, and a week later I can't find it anywhere still. Is it still dancing? Did I do something that got me completely nuked out of the system? I planned to keep building links steadily over the next couple of months as well but will this even help?

I know no one probably has the definitive answer but any input would help!
