Hey guys, since my bud the onsite heating technician does not wish to have his house address displayed in the GMB and since as far as I am being told google will not rank him in the 3 pack, does it make any sense to focus on local citations backlinking on a monthly basis please?

For me its better to backlink from local citations because it is specifically targeted for your users. The more detailed in GMB, the better, so that Google will consider your business as legitimate in its respected field.

NAP (Name , Address & Phone number ) Is very crucial for local citation . NAP Should be consistence across all the listing according to the GMB. So if you don't have address then it's will work but it's not fulfilling google rules . For the google 3 pack is not an easy task and citation not only the ranking factor . Beside the citation backlink you have to do more thing . To get more local customers you can build Local Citation monthly basis it will help you .

Always build citations, but your client needs to grow to the point where they can get some commercial office space for a proper GMB setup ASAP.

Citations will boost your referring domains and on top of that, Yelp and a few others can be decent lead sources for an HVAC company.
