Google changing URL??

Hello,

I have landing pages on my website for each area in the UK. I have got all the pages ranking on the first page of Google in each area except the Birmingham page which seems like Google has replaced with the homepage witch is ranking on the first page instead. Has anyone come across this before and is this normal for Google to rank the homepage in my location rather than use the Birmingham area page witch is there? if so should I be building backlinks for the homepage or area page?

Thanks

  • Google ranks the page it thinks best firs the search. So, yes, it is common.
You want the other page to rank, get it some backlinks. Internal ones count too.

    • Thank you for the information, I have built loads of backlinks for the Birmingham area page but it just doesn't won't to rank. Do you think I would be better using the homepage instead or do you think it will eventuality rank?

  • Building backlinks for the internal page is the key to getting it ranked before the homepage. Although it's a good habit to work for internal pages ranking too.

  • Google may have find the relevancy in the content of homepage for Birmingham location. Add optimized and relevant content to your internal page and then perform the linking part. It will help you to get ranking for internal page.
  • One of the best reason why you should not game or manipulate Google because they are more on undestanding your website content pages. Google thinks what's the best page for the users query so they will provide it in the search results without your consent.
  • You can use your custom URL with a site on new Google Sites by creating a web address mapping.

Step 1: Check that you own your URL
Step 2: Update your URL on your host site
Step 3: Assign your custom URL
