Hello,

While i was doing an audit to my website SEO, i found out a warning for a page that is most of the time blank.

Basically, this page serves for storing articles for visitors who would like to read their favorite selections later.

This is the link: https://myownsite.com/?read-it-later

The problem with this is that the url is the same as the homepage and as you can see it has next to it the parameter "read-it-later"

So i want to be very careful on how to prevent this url from being indexed by google without compromising the indexing of the homepage.

What is the best approach through htaccess or wordpress ?

Thank you in advance for your help !

First, that is NOT the same URL as the home page.

More important, I'm trying to figure out why you are wasting time on this. Are you harmed in some way by this page getting indexed?

Well it shows in the audit as it's missing some important meta tags, and i'm a bit worried that it might be taken even tiny bit into the ranking factor by google ?

      I'm i being paranoid ?

Google ranks individual pages, not entire websites. One page isn't going to cause a sitewide penalty. Most sites have hundreds if not thousands of 404 errors and/or pages with little to zero content.

The read-it-later page does it redirects to the homepage or shows a 404?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Many sites have these irrelevant pages which have absolutely no meaning. So, don't worry leave it to be.

The best way to stop indexing your specif pages by updating Robots.txt file. By modify this file you can push search engine crawlers to do indexing of your pages or not, depends upon the choice of yours that which pages you configure as "allow" and which are "Dis-allow"

Add No Index tag to the page. You can do that in WordPress using SEO plugins or any other relevant plugin.
