Best way to boost CTR of Search results

Requesting all SEO experts to guide in the right direction please, with what is the best way to boost CTR of search results?

We have over 1,000 keywords resulting in our pages in SERP from 48k impression giving 117 clicks (worst case) to 1500 impressions fetching 437 clicks (best case).

I understand that relevancy is KING these days and I'm only referring to the relevant and super useful content with very low CTR.

1) Is building similar content and doing internal backlink to the older page will help?
2) OR create new skyscraper content and older content point link to the new one?
3) OR building external social media links will help?
4) OR building external high DA / PA links will help?
5) Please share any other ideas or suggest the best option from above.

Thanks in advance.

Impressions means how many times a page was shown in results, even if on page 8 when the searcher only looked at page 1.

To get better ctr, increase position in serps for relevant/ useful keywords.

#1 in serps gets about 30% of the searches.
#87 gets 0.00001% or so. If you do not my wild guess, work with 0; for practicality it is accurate.

NONE of this has anything to do with CTR ( Click Through Rate ) You can have a page that ranks in the #1 position and it could still have a poor CTR.

CTR is directly related to the text that is visible in the SERP's so things like URL and Page Title become the variables you have the most control over. With an amount of less control there is also the Description Tag. And I say less because it is up to Google and its Algorithm to show the description tag or a chunk of text from the page that it feels is most relevant. A 4th variable is Rich Snippets or Schema inserts within SERP listings and this again is not totally within your control.

The greatest factor is understanding you can have a page of content that is ranking for far more than one term and the overall relevance for any given term may be a bit lack luster. Its identifying this, and creating content that may fit a poor performing term.

A very rough example would be say a piece of content on "Backpacks" You might rank well for that term, but you are also ranking for terms like Red Backpacks, Blue Backpacks, Green Backpacks, Black Backpacks, etc etc. The text overall MAY actually mention the different colors but in terms of the relation of what someone is looking for and what they see on the SERPS for those terms may be lacking.

Again identifying the terms with an amount of search and we will say "Red Backpacks" is that term... but your page written about "Backpacks" is not overly relative to a searcher wanting to know more about "Red Backpacks" so your CTR will be lower. A piece of content specifically for "Red Backpacks" may be called for. Make sense?

Add some magnetic keywords in title and description to improve CTR.

  • You can try using a question (that your content solves) as your title. If people are seeking the answer to that question, they will be more likely to click on it. Also, your title will stand out from the others, as many people don't use this technique (unless it's a site like quora).

    1. Start generating urgency with countdown timers
    2. Use ad extensions to increase visibility
    3. Use symbols to get attention
    4. Put the main keyword you're bidding on in the URL of your ad
    5. Call your readers to action to get the click
    6. Before writing a word of ad copy, get to know your audience
    Don't forget to test

CTR is more suitable for measuring the call to action performance on your webpage. Your question is more about SEO and ranking, rather than CTR performance.

When you are talking about the visits compared to how many times it appeared in search results, the ranking position is the main factor. The maximum number of clicks go to the #1 (30-40% or so), the #2 will get 10-15%, and the rest will get a small fraction. If you are not ranking in top 5, the traffic will be very low. If you are at #10 or even lower, you will get 1-3% or even lower traffic volume.
Given that Google search has many elements for some specific niches eg: locksmiths show verified/ screened businesses, the traffic will be even lower for those.
Solution: Get at the top in search results. Use a catchy SEO title so that you maximize on the benefit.

To get better CTR, you must have a catchy meta title and description. Because of meta title and description gives the 1st view of your site. Already your site has 48k impressions so you follow this step and you get more CTR.

Simply optimizing your page snippets (Title and Description tags) for Google, should increase the CTR. Start with optimizing the snippets for pages that are fetching the impressions.
