Hi

I am doing my own SEO for years. I go up and down on rankings. But over the past year i have noticed that even if i have the first position for all my relevant keyword, i don`t get a lot of organic traffic. The home page on google is overcrowded with information

4 adword listings
3 maps
Other searches
Wikipedia
SEO

I think people dont go that low on the home page. Any recommendations?

  • You may not be receiving much organic traffic because perhaps you're targeting keywords that do not have a high monthly search volume. You should research which keywords in your industry receive the most searches and focus on those. Target 10-15 keywords that have at least 1000 searches per month (each), and you should definitely receive a good amount of traffic coming to your site if you rank on the first page for those keywords.
Also, do you have a Google My Business listing?

First of all, nobody searching for 'floor sanding dublin' is clicking on Wikipedia.

Second, Maps listings are part of SEO and that is where most of the traffic is going to go for a local search like that. If you are not ranking in there, then you really are not ranking.

Lastly, why would you ask this question when in another thread you just said...

I post links with content on scoop.it and all the links are being re-posted on facebook, tumblr , list.ly, enetget, etc. SEO works better than ever
So in one breathe you say SEO works better than ever and in another, you are asking if it is worth it.

I miss when this place had moderators and stupid threads like this would be trashed.

        Then stop doing SEO.

What you are saying is not true. Most of the traffic will go to the maps locations for a local search. Other than that, unless it is a search for like "what is the date today" or something like that where Google will answer with a simple answer box, most of the traffic is still going to the first few organic positions.

But if you really believe what you are saying, then just stop doing SEO. Focus on something else.

Is it not bringing in work or is it just not bringing in clicks to the site? If it's an issue with not getting any leads, your site may not convert well for some reason. Check Analytics and see how your users behave on the site for clues.

If it's a problem with not getting clicks, work on your map ranking as others have suggested. Optimize your GMB profile, post frequently and build up citations.

    Learn about local SEO techniques.

Though Google asks websites to keep their site content at the top, it does just the opposite for its search results. It shows all other content, such as ads, maps, and partner programs, that it wants above the actual results. As mere mortals, we have to live with it.

When you want traffic from Google for such location-centric searched, the only way to get some traffic is being right at the top in organic search.

Map listing has been important for ages now. Being at the top in map pack is very, very important for local search.

If you do your SEO yourself and have started lagging behind, you should consider updating yourself on the latest in SEO. Things have changed drastically over the years and old techniques often have devastating results. Start implementinng the latest SEO strategies that work. Alternatively, seek expert help.

Yes! I definitely agree. A lot of people think that traffic from social media marketing is better than organic traffic, but it's not. Think of it this way: people go onto social media for entertainment, to interact with their friends, to socialize, etc... they're usually not there to buy something. So although you can sell products via social media, it will be more difficult as the traffic is not the same Quality as traffic from Google. That is, people who search for a buyer keyword on Google are usually ready to make a purchase, as they're actively searching for a solution to their problem. With social media, you have to grab the person's attention, point out what their problem may be, and show them how your product/service can help solve it.

I think SEO is absolutely worth it. It is the only 100% foolproof way to get high search intent traffic to your website without gimmicks. SEO is an investment. Remember that the longer your domain has been online, the more points you will gain with the algorithm.

Whereas PPC only provides leads when the campaign is running, a good SEO practice will yield healthy fruit over the long run. Create compelling and engaging content to increase session times per unique visitor. Make sure your UX is friendly. And of course, always optimize for mobile.

Another point I want to touch is that over 30% of users use ad-blockers. They may not even see all of the things you mentioned in your OP post.

Don't give up. SEO is a slow process, but I assure you its worth the wait.

SEO is still worth the investment.
Traditional marketing efforts cost much more than SEO to set up, monitor, and maintain. Traditional marketing doesn't guarantee that people will be flocking to your doors to make a purchase, either. It's not targeted, and it's not always bound to reach the right audience.

  • Yes SEO is still worth it. When you in the 1st organic position in SERPS, you are automatically perceived as an authority in your niche.

People usually read the 1st organic position in Google and view it as the authority due to its position in SERPS. If you are no longer getting business from your organic first page listing, then you should possibly look at your service delivery. Perhaps people are weary of your bad service, and no longer wish to do business with you based on your reputation, and not on position in SERPS.

There could be many factors as to why your business has declined recently, and SEO may just be the tip of the iceberg for you.

Have you ever tried by checking the volume of your keywords? You can use Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest. Some keywords are easy to rank in SERPS especially if less competition yet you will receive less traffic. Try to gather relevant keywords with high volume so you can gain addition traffic.

    • All search terms have specific volume of searches per month. Find out how much yours has (the one you are ranking for).

    • If there are a limited amount of people searching for what you are ranking for, there will be a limited amount of clicks you will get.

    • SEO is like the "Cant get credit because I have no credit." merry-go-round. The easy number one rankings are usually those that have little competition, while the opposite is also true. Working for number one with a search term result of 100

million is probably ten times easier than ranking for a term that has a billion results.

    • Use analytics to determine where and how much traffic your site is getting from organic search engine results.

Keyword targeting only helps when there is enough search volume for that keyword.
Why don't you use Google Search Console to get an idea about the search traffic for a particular keyword?
If there is no search volume for a particular keyword, you'll not get traffic to your website even if you rank higher in Google SERPs.

If the monthly searches on Google for your most important keyword are at least 500 per month, it is worth investing money and time for a good seo strategy, if the searches instead are less, does not make sense to waste time and money with SEO, better to use google ads to promote your service or website...

Hey, if you are asking about SEO working to get the first page/first rank on Google/Bing. Yes, it's working. But if you are asking about the increasing number of visitors based on the SEO and your keyword ranking, it's not working that much.

See, first of all, the first fold of Google SERP is full of Ads. And after the inclusion of extensions, there is almost no place for the organic results. Secondly, if you are targetting keywords which compete with the Google My Business Local Listing, you will get another 3-4 map listing before reaching to your organic listing the first rank. So, even if you are ranking at number 1 in organic search, you are probably at number 9 in the SERP result, which means you will get fewer visitors compared to some years ago when the ads didn't take much space on SERPs.

In short, having the first rank nowadays didn't get the benefit as it gave before some year. So don't expect too much although you have a Google First Page ranking.

In my opinion, SEO used to be really good it was possible to rank for good keywords fast however it is important to take into consideration that there are 380 websites created every minute so you do the maths competition is pretty fierce.

So much has changed even keywords that proved to be not competitive a few months later with keyword research tools available today soon get overcrowded and become competitive

I still enjoy SEO and writing but it is just for fun if I want traffic then I just buy it why? I am not interested in waiting around for Google to provide it. If you are not in a hurry then fine go for it.

With regard to paid traffic, Youtube is the way to go if you know what you are doing

    Hope that helps

If you have a good position in Google for your keywords and don;t get much traffic from those keywords / rankings then it just means those keywords don't get many searches.

The truth is, keyword search volumes in many tools including Googles isn't that accurate.

Just write and publish quality content and try to answer questions that you would imagine gets searched for.

Use Google suggest to see what Google suggests when you start typing a keyword.

Some niches and some keywords just aren't that in demand. In that case you need to either target new niches, or publish and rank for MORE keywords to get your overall volume up.

However, depending on how much traffic you are currently getting, it's often best to focus on monetization more. You can always work on traffic more afterwards. But how is your monetization? There are LOTS of ways to monetize your site / blog. Ads, banners, products, lead magnets, lead generation with follow up email. Lead magnets with low priced tripwires etc.

You often don't need much traffic to earn decent money. You just need to learn and understand how to best monetize the traffic you do have.

It's true that SEO has changed, it's no more very keyword centric, the way it used to be, but SEO is still very important. No SEO means you will loose a lot of high quality traffic, even your map listings depend in part on your SEO.

Hell yeah, I've made over five figures last year from SEO. Both from freelancing and my own websites. My best website receives 25K visitors per month.

Recommendations: focus on keywords/niches that are less competitive. Often the more longtail keywords. Create epic content that actually helps your target audience. The more value you give, the more you'll be rewarded by Google and the users.

Keywords competition could be a reason for ranking fluctuations.

I would suggest you to check the keyword competition and if you find huge competition then you have to take steps to reduce the competition or you can select some alternate keywords.

    4 adword listings

I think people dont go that low on the home page. Any recommendations?

This definitely does make a difference to click through rate. This is especially the case if your target keyword is a simple type queries. Like "Dog training near me". The listings will display maps and boxes which are where the clicks will come from.

I either try to get into those listings or just choose keywords that will naturally encourage people to not just get their answer from the google listings and disappear without a click.

SEO is what enhances a websites visibility. It explains why companies still spend a lot of money on SEO. Try to ignore it and do nothing for a year and lets compare the aftermath.

first let me tell you that seo is not limited and you can't bound it in counts. SEO wants perfection that's means you have create 1000 backlinks but still you are not able to rank on serp and someone who have less backlink than you and he rank on the top . In this case you think that SEO is dead. no in SEO count does not matter , quality does matter if you do right SEO with high authority backlinks than you can rank on any keyword easily.
