Hi

I am doing my own SEO for years. I go up and down on rankings. But over the past year i have noticed that even if i have the first position for all my relevant keyword, i don`t get a lot of organic traffic. The home page on google is overcrowded with information

4 adword listings
3 maps
Other searches
Wikipedia
SEO

I think people dont go that low on the home page. Any recommendations?

    • Hi

I do a lot of content, great links, social media, etc. Don`t get me wrong, i have the first position for most of my keywords. But people are not really going down the page to the SEO area. Adwords or maps

I would usually scroll all the way down but anything after the first page is useless I presume.

    • I am on the maps. I get a decent amount of business from there. But the idea that Google loves content is kind of getting old. My good content keeps me on page 2 because google money making systems are taking over the whole first page

  • You may not be receiving much organic traffic because perhaps you're targeting keywords that do not have a high monthly search volume. You should research which keywords in your industry receive the most searches and focus on those. Target 10-15 keywords that have at least 1000 searches per month (each), and you should definitely receive a good amount of traffic coming to your site if you rank on the first page for those keywords.
Also, do you have a Google My Business listing?

First of all, nobody searching for 'floor sanding dublin' is clicking on Wikipedia.

Second, Maps listings are part of SEO and that is where most of the traffic is going to go for a local search like that. If you are not ranking in there, then you really are not ranking.

Lastly, why would you ask this question when in another thread you just said...

I post links with content on scoop.it and all the links are being re-posted on facebook, tumblr , list.ly, enetget, etc. SEO works better than ever
So in one breathe you say SEO works better than ever and in another, you are asking if it is worth it.

I miss when this place had moderators and stupid threads like this would be trashed.

    • I am talking about SEO working well in getting the ranking. But SEO does not work well for people ranking 1st because you are too down the page. I can get the first position for most of my keywords, but that 1st position does not seem to bring in work anymore

        Then stop doing SEO.

What you are saying is not true. Most of the traffic will go to the maps locations for a local search. Other than that, unless it is a search for like "what is the date today" or something like that where Google will answer with a simple answer box, most of the traffic is still going to the first few organic positions.

But if you really believe what you are saying, then just stop doing SEO. Focus on something else.

  • Well, that s what i am thinking, to stop the SEO because the return is not worth it for the amount of work required. I have more or less the same keywords for years. I think the way the google homepage has changed, it does affect the income of most companies.

    Thanks for all your replys

    Learn about local SEO techniques.

Though Google asks websites to keep their site content at the top, it does just the opposite for its search results. It shows all other content, such as ads, maps, and partner programs, that it wants above the actual results. As mere mortals, we have to live with it.

When you want traffic from Google for such location-centric searched, the only way to get some traffic is being right at the top in organic search.

Map listing has been important for ages now. Being at the top in map pack is very, very important for local search.

If you do your SEO yourself and have started lagging behind, you should consider updating yourself on the latest in SEO. Things have changed drastically over the years and old techniques often have devastating results. Start implementinng the latest SEO strategies that work. Alternatively, seek expert help.

No, you are absolutely wrong. SEO and digital marketing is the future. People are getting more sales and organic traffic because of SEO. I think the website which is ranked on search engine is of low volume and KD thats why you are not getting any traffic or sale

  • I think SEO is absolutely worth it. It is the only 100% foolproof way to get high search intent traffic to your website without gimmicks. SEO is an investment. Remember that the longer your domain has been online, the more points you will gain with the algorithm.

Whereas PPC only provides leads when the campaign is running, a good SEO practice will yield healthy fruit over the long run. Create compelling and engaging content to increase session times per unique visitor. Make sure your UX is friendly. And of course, always optimize for mobile.

Another point I want to touch is that over 30% of users use ad-blockers. They may not even see all of the things you mentioned in your OP post.

Don't give up. SEO is a slow process, but I assure you its worth the wait.
