Hi guys,

I tried it a few times, using different keywords, https no longer appears in the search results, why?

Thank you in advance.

  • Neither https nor http is displayed, instead a logo appears, which is in front of the URL.
Does Google intentionally blur the difference between https and http?
Is Google deliberately diluting the importance of https?

    Thanks.

    • No they are not diluting its importance. It has very little importance.

Why in the world would you care if they are showing HTTP or HTTPS or neither in the SERPs?

  • Does your site actually have a SSL installed?

If yes then which one was indexed in Google with SSL or without SSL?

    • No matter what words you search, don't show http or https

  • The http or https has disappeared because google has used newer look to their Google Search platform.
I don't know why exactly they've done it, but I believe that they've done it to dilute the importance of the SSL certificate.
I believe it gives them a god-hand over sites that don't have an SSL certificate.
    I maybe wrong too.

    • This is exactly what I am worried about, I am even more worried about whether Google will cancel SSL in the future?

  • If you are using Chrome version 76 or newer they have stripped the http, https and www from the address bar. You can make them appear by double clicking in the url address bar or click once on mobile.

There are two ways to adjust Chrome so you will always see them but I won't bother to post the steps. I don't see the point.

Unless you are selling ssl installation services I don't know why you would care. Google doesn't think anyone cares either. I have ssl on my main authority site but I think the domain looks a lot better in the address bar without unnecessary stuff on the front of it. Visitors see the domain quicker and better if they look up there.
  • Oops... I forgot you were talking about in the search results. I also think it looks a LOT better there. Someone searches... sees my site in the results with just my favicon and domain name. It looks clean and memorable. For any search I think it is just easier on the eyes scrolling down and just seeing the favicons and domain names.

    • I worry about http and https are equally important in the near future, there is no difference between them.
