Voice-powered search is one of emerging tech that will impact SEO

Siri. Google Assistant. Bixby. Cortana. Alexa. These are all AI-powered virtual assistants from the five major tech giants, and each of these lets users search for something directly using voice alone.



Natural language tech is improving, and if you've watched any film featuring Iron Man, you'll see the titular character talk to his AI as if he's conversing with a friend. That's natural language interface, and as voice recognition systems continuously improve so does the ability to give commands like you're talking to another human. A study in 2018 found that 70% of English language voice searches were made in natural language. That 70% was in 2018, so 2019 would've had a bigger number.

Voice search is an emerging trend, but as with any emerging tech, it'll soon be widely available everywhere.

    Google is already behaving like a Q&A site these days. It will more and more try to learn the character of any page and give the results according to it.

    It's not impacting SEO. That is BS. People are doing the same searches, they are just telling their phone what to search for rather than typing it.

    So tired of this voice search is the future of SEO BS that has been around for 3-4 years now.

      ok the searches remain the same... its the result from the search that has changed. Do a "Voice Search" and how many results come back? The answer is ONE and only ONE. NO list... NO ads... NO shopping Panel. NO Image Panel. Just a short and to the point answer to the question from ONE site.

      I have actually been somewhat playing with this for some amount of time now... At this point it would be personally "Cool" to have a snippet pulled from one of my sites - that answers a "Voice Search". But I don't think its just that easy. Do a voice search and you get a snippet... do the same search on a computer.. and in some / more than I thought cases I have not seen the article the snippet came from.

      Lets do a search for "Coronavirus" and you will hear Google say "According to the Economic Times..." and then do the physical text search and east coast USA I find that listed in the last listing on page 1. Given the amount of authority on that page like the CDC and WebMD... and the snippet comes from a news agency?

      Voice Search very clearly has its own algorithm - as in no question about it. Unlike ANY other search platform I don't think there is an amount of rhyme or reason with this.. and because there is only ONE result.. you couldn't even begin to make any amount of testing or theory about HOW that ONE is selected.

      Voice Search to the Googles of the world has to be the "Holy Grail" there is simply no way to game it... there is no comparing listings to figure it out. Its is simply a question and an answer of <insert platform name's> choosing. The first functioning "Blind" algorithm.

        Problem is that, most of the time, the one dpoken result is not what I am after, so it annoys me, so I still go to read other, better, results.

        So the goal is the same. To rank #1. But for most voice searches through voice assistants, you are not going to get a web visit out of it. No chance to gain a lead, make a sale, etc.

        For most of the searches that matter, people are still doing them through other devices and will continue to do so.

        You have me confused with someone else I think.

        The only thing I get tired of hearing about HTTPS is that it is a significant ranking factor (it's not) and that it protects your site and makes it more secure (it doesn't).

        Other than that, I've been advocating people migrate to HTTPS for quite some time now, but mostly just because of the increasingly intrusive warnings that web browsers are throwing up on sites not using an SSL certificate. That can cost you visitors, so it is stupid not to use it.

          I think you missed the portion where the piece of content that "Won" was not ranked first, it was LAST on page one. I will get into here in a moment where "ranking" in 1st 2nd or 3rd really doesn't matter... just being present, l that matters

          Its the "Web Assistant" search that is DRASTICALLY increasing - and the whole idea of "Rank" gets thrown out the door. using Google assistant in 2 variants; the puck and the one with the screen, provides 2 different results. The screened device does give options and these are listed based on geography to search location from closest to furthest.

          The puck is slightly different and there are some factors involved. A network that has your phone ( I have an android phone ) attached I believe pulls the primary phones maps data and only suggest the Pizza places that I have been to as in "Would you like me to call X" and X being the most visited place. You can then ask for other options and it will list other locations you have visited.

          Doing the same search on say my phone then provides a new set of results, based on actual Algorithm based results we are used to.

          Switching up the term to the above example ( Coronavirus ) and all of the choice in the above local search example disappears... there is but one answer.

I don't think we are near the 50% mark ( I could be wrong - I know I use it a lot - so feel my opinion is a bit jaded - because most that I know do not use it, let alone use it to the extent I do ) The shift has already occurred...

          I think we are past the point of "When" and the SEO community ( local SEO primarily ) as I see it, needs to make a huge transition. Im not seeing much if anything with BIG SEO people making even an effort in this type of direction.

          I was at a "Pitch" or presentation just yesterday for a pretty decent sized organization. After my "Pitch" there was more interest in WHY, what it was I was offering was so different than the other Pitches. And then I said "It comes down to one thing - Hey Google" and half the phones in the room could be heard bleep bleeping.

          Points 32 to 35 is where the meat on the bone is for me in regards to direction my SEO practice is moving forward. People have the darn phone in their hand... people are speaking into a device that is in most cases directly connected to a phone if it is not one ( Google home devices as an example ) A phone call is the most logical desired Call to Action, and THAT is a complete 180 turn from the web web web world we think we live in.

    Enzo, voice search emerged in 2007:

    In reality, the very first voice search emerged way back in 2007, when Google released the GOOG-411 service. GOOG-411 was effectively a telephone service that allowed users to run local searches via the telephone. Although this is a very basic version of voice search compared to modern day, it was in fact the platform for modern voice search technology.
    Not speaking for Enzo, but I believe Enzo really means voice search has evolved to a significant extent and is more widespread across different industries.

    Good topic. These days, voice search is going explore and in the coming days voice search is widely reach out their audience.

    Voice Search is impact to SEO because of the following things:

    - Natural Language
    - Keyword Length
    - Question Words

    Content marketers are already creating their content in such a way, if a voice search is made then their content gets the best chance of being suggested. Simple sentence structure and longer sentences along with the keywords.

    In the upcoming time voice search definitely affect the result of SEO.
    There is a difference between voice and text search. Exactly don't know how much, but results will be changed.
