Backlinks not coming through!

Hi all!

Although I use a lot of different techniques to get backlinks, mostly I have been using a large list of directories, as the main source, but in the last say 3-6mths they have stopped begin processed, or so it seams.

I am not getting any "your link has been approved/disproved" emails.
Which I normally do.

So I am thinking it could be one of these:

-These directories are shut, and don't process any more
-They are super busy and are taking longer to reply, (how long should I wait?)
-I may have not followed their rules properly, but I thought I would have gotten an email saying so?

I did a test on 2 new websites and it has been a month and no emails or backlinks have shown up, maybe one or two compared with maybe 20% showing up.

I know for a fact that prior to 6mths ago that they worked and increase the sites rank.

Does anyone else have any theories?

Some directories are made for ads. They simply use the free scripts available and create numerable directories, and if you include your links there, then I think its of very less use. It could be the case above.

    Thank you.

I would say to start by NOT using directories for backlinks, aside from a select few they are a complete waste of time. Strongest Links - Hand-grow your link popularity has, from what I have seen, the best list of directories most of which are paid. There are a select few I pick out from this list based on certain factors.

Other way you could get free backlinks include article submission, rss feed submission, press releases, micro blogging, Squidoo and Hubpages, forums, blog commenting, link exchange, link baiting & social media - all better ways to get links than directories

Directories can be especially useful for local site promotion.. there are several really solid local directories that boost SEO presence, so in that case it is more worth investing your time.

I use directory bot to just auto submit to 200 or so sites. That's it for directory submissions. I'm not even sure how much they help, but it only takes 2 minutes to do.

Backlinks from directories are a complete waste of time if that is all you are doing. MIx it up, get links from all sources, never from just one.

There are plenty of other sources of backlinks other than directories. You might try article submissions, blogs, social media, forums and plenty of other ways. Don't put all of your eggs into one basket!

I use directories to vary my links, it doesn't give much link power. You need to mix many types of links to make it worth the time.

Most directories are not even indexed except for a few top pages. There is little chance you will see anything from those cookie cutter directories. Only really big one like Yahoo, BOTW and dmoz matter these days...
