Hi, I'm new to adsense...

Am I correct in assuming that it seems we have no choice in the advert that we receive [for our webpage/s] from Adsense; that Google bases it purely on our URL (hence page content) we supply from our account?

If this is correct, presumably G supplies a different advert for say - 10 adsense ads - on the same page, i.e. if we want multiple ads on one page of our site?

Thanks

  • Sometimes, you can get same ads in different ad blocks on same page. RARE though. Generally the ads are different.

    • Correct, you have no choice on the ads. However, you can set up blocks for specific domains so those ads won't appear.

  • From what I have seen, Google uses the keywords from your page and matches those up to their ads. I found this out one day when I posted an article that had absolutly nothing to do with pianos. I used a piano though as an example in a part of the article. The example was in the first third of the article. So, the adword ads that were showing were related to pianos. Yes, it seems that you can control the ads that are displayed on your page via keywords. If you want good paying ads then you need to go to Google's Adword Tool and look for the high bidded keywords and place those on your page.

  • You can tweek your content until you get the ads you want.

And it goes far beyond the URL and whats on the page. Your incoming and outgoing links play a role in the what it determines is relevant.

    • There is coding you can put in your content that will target certain keywords you want your ads to be based around.

  • You can use what Google call "Section Targetting" to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you'd like Google to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site's content.
