What Is Website Authority?

Of course, it's not Moz's domain authority.

So what is it?
  • Is it how many links a website has?
  • Is it the strength/power of those links?
  • Is it the trustworthiness and prominence of its contributing authors?
  • Is it the quality of its information?
  • Is it its connection with trust signals, like a real address, reviews, and a bonafide corporation?
  • Is it brand signals like a thorough About Us section, active social media accounts, and branded searches?

Is it a culmination of those things?

It's hard to put a finger on it.

But one thing we know for sure:

If we do enough of the above, eventually our sites become authoritative in their respective spaces.

It is a combination of a few things, and not just one single thing. Moz's domain authority is definitely less impactful as compared to Alexa Rank and its value.

Website Authority refers to Domain Authority basically it is a parameter to know the ranking of the website in search engine result pages. The interlinking of the website helps to gain high domain scores for example Wikipedia. Wikipedia has the highest domain ranking as it has the highest no. links interconnected to their websites.

As no search engines use the Domain Authority metric to rank websites, care to explain how it "know the ranking of the website in search engine result pages"? WTF does that even mean? You seem to have no clue what you are talking about and what DA even is.

        That is not true:
        Google's John Muller, 10/11 July 2020:
"Google doesn't use DA at all, so any rankings you might see would be totally independent of DA."
divyakochar your statement is the most uneducated and ridiculous SEO statement that I have heard in a long time.

  • Website authority is basically its is a combination for Page Authority and Domain Authority. If You are generating a backlink from Good domain authority sites, your page authority and domain will increase and it is good from an SEO point of view.

Moz is a company and you can't ignore DA & PA.

If you really want to get backlinks then you should do submission on high DA & PA Sites.

Install Moz Chrome extension during submission. They actually play a crucial role in SEO

    Hi there,

Domain Authority is a measure of how well a website is likely to perform in search engine results. It's a search engine ranking score developed by Moz to give an overview of likely site performance. After Google deprecated and then stopped publishing PageRank, DA became one of the go-to replacements

What a total load of nonsense! No search engine uses DA as a metric to rank sites.

Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). ... This score can then be used when comparing websites or tracking the "ranking strength" of a website over time.

    Website authority = Backlinks
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11615010].message }}
  • Traditionally, website's authority is derived from the quality and quantity of backlinks a website gets. Realistically, though, it is a concept made up by SEO gurus and SEO tool developers and it doesn't mean anything in particular.

Why are so many clueless people posting in this thread? DA has NOTHING to do with the subject area or industry.

        Because they are clueless.

OP, DA is a metric invented by MOZ, so that MOZ could make more money. It is also used by people who sell backlinks to justify charging more for a backlink than it is worth.

It is also used by wannabe SEO experts to justify their fees / existence.

Not much use for it outside of the above.

Yes and like so many over the years they are here today and gone tomorrow, per se. Dig a lil deeper and you'll find they are selling the same service in the WSO section. It is another reason "Why are so many clueless people posting in this thread?"

              Let me try to put it this way;
what are you going to do if Trollsylvania citizens all the sadden
stop it regular trips to WF to post their deep thoughts, try to sell
BS and most of all entertain you and others with stuff you wouldn't

All assessment of your website according to the quality backlink it has, the traffic it has, how old the website is, the relevance of the content, and the most important thing is the optimization of the website to guidelines of search engines.

DA and PA are NOT used by any search engine as a metric to rank sites.

The domain authority of a website depicts its pertinence for a particular branch of knowledge or industry. This importance directly affects its positioning via web crawlers, attempting to survey space authority through computerized insightful calculations.
