Two categories for an article

Hello, community!

As we all know, when we write an article for our blog, it is normal that it can be assigned to more than one category.

For example, if we write an article about "How to backup in Windows 10", this article can be assigned in the "Windows 10" category as in the "Tutorials" category.

Does it affect the SEO to assign the same article to two different categories?

Best regards!

  • Not really, but if there is one category page that you would rather rank higher than the other, it would be best to apply a canonical to the page listing in that category.

Of course, it also depends on how your URLs are structured. If the category name is not part of the URL, it doesn't matter at all (e.g. mywebsite.com/myarticle). If, on the other hand, your categories are appended to the URL (e.g. mywebsite.com/category_1/my article), it would be better to make one of them the canonical (preferred) URL for indexing.

  • Thanks for your opinion, Dave.
  • What SEO has to do with where your article will popup in 2 or 22 categories?
