I know people always say don't open new topics when there are dozens of others explaining that particular question/problem.

However, I am a student, have to study, so I am doing all this IM learning, money making trying etc etc. in my spare time, which is limited. Oh, yes, I am new to this forum.

First question: Is external Adwords keyword tool good for finding keywords which attract relatively small number of visitors, let's say 1000-3000, a month
(yes, I know, you have to put exact instead of broad in results).

Because I've done some kwrd research there, and I have like 8-10 keywords which I am already ranked (I've done some SEO) pretty high for (first 2-4 pages, only a lil' bit more of backlinking and Google top 2-3 positions) and those keywords together make something like 4000-5000 visitors monthly ACCORDING to Adwords keyword tool.

On the other side, there is that Wordtracked tool I heard of few days ago, which shows entirelly different results for keywords I am ranked good.

Anyone has some suggestions? Because I mainly looking for something like 80% accurate number of (average of course) monthly visitors, to plan my SEO campaigns.

    • As I'm sure you know, no keyword tool is completely accurate. I find that it's best to check the keyword with multiple tools before going for it. Personally I also check the keyword on google trends because most of the time if it shows data, it's usually a good indication you picked a solid keyword.

  • I found that Google keyword tools to be relatively accurate! Just don't be too sensitive about the numbers, but they will give you a feel of how many visitors you are gonna get!

    • of course, but I was talkin about some bigger inaccuraccy... Few hundreds up or down for a keyword of only 1000 monthly visitors according to Google is just fine.
  • Also don't forget that Wordtracker gives you seaches by day. Google is per month. So that might be why your numbers as off.

  • Hi rovad,

Let me clarify something for you: The AdWords Keyword Tool does NOT report the number of , it reports the number of searches on their Search Network. About half of all searches are abandoned without clicking on any listing. The #1 listing gets an average CTR of approximately 23%. The second position averages 6.5% CTR and it goes down from there.

You need to take these average CTRs into account when calculating your needs for visitor traffic.

    • that still means I get something like 500-1000 visitors a month. Trust me that is way better than I do now.
