Hi,

I remember hearing somewhere that if you have a page on a site, and you put multiple links, lets say 5, on that page, if they all point to one domain then only the first one counts.

Is this correct?

Or is it to one url? So it can be one domain, just 5 different pages.

All incoming links from one site or many links from same IP are counted as one link by google.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I've ranked and seen plenty of sites ranked using profile links from single site platforms that are all on the same IP.

IP diversity helps but is by no means essential, especially for low competition keywords.

Hey Andy, how are you? I originally suspected this, and now you have the answer!

I think domain / IP diversity is important, but not necessary counted as 1, just like same articles distributed across many sites, the content is same but doesn't mean it would be one...

        and

I think spinning the article to more unique will greatly help increase the link power, what do you think?

Do you both agree that two links on ONE Page only counts as one though?

I am doing some profile links and dont know whether to put 1 or 2 links in them.

I agree with Andy on the counting of multiple links from domains and urls on the same or a small range of IP's - definately they get counted by google and assist your rankings.

Now as to your query of identical backlinks to the same URL on a single page, Ive only seen one count.

      Examples:

You'll only get credit for ONE of these links on a single page
      -------
blue widgets [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com
blue widgets [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com
blue widgets [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com

repeating the same links and kw's over and over again on the same page doesnt seem to assist much in my trials

This gets more links and helps more

blue widgets details [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com/bwidgetdetails.html

blue widgets pricing[ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com/prices.html

blue widgets blog [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://blog.mybluewidgetsrule.com

blue widgets [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com

blue widgets [ KW Phrase ] --> Link URL hxxp://zzz.mybluewidgetsrule.com/blog/seo-optimized-url

In the last example above - id not put more more than 3 links like that to any one of my many domains - subdom's included. Thats just me.

Okay i see, so if I dont use the same keyword and the same specific url I should be fine. Got it.

I dont want to put 4 or 5 on, just 2 at the most.

I played around and tested the profile sites I had been using and 1 or 2 links sticked the best, the other higher ones (like 5), the profiles got deleted.

I just didnt want to be putting 2 links if it wasnt going to be doing me any good!

        Thanks for the help

I agree on this, that's why I keep telling people to use only 3 links or less in their profile.

Less links gives you better chances of keeping your profile, if you keep building more links on the same page, it just reduces all link juice to each and every keyword!

Just keep the number low, and sign up more profiles for links !

      Hi sarah_may,

I'm not sure that is true, the first link may count more and each additional link is reduced in value, but not worthless.

  • Depends on how you define count. Google "counts" all links, but does not apply ranking to all links. You won't get an SEO boost by having hundreds of links from the same site. If you did all you would need to do is find a single Forum and post over and over.

I appreciate this thread. It's a question I've had also. One thing comes to mind about posting multiple links on the same thread/IP/URL is how page rank gets diminished as more links are added. I saw the formula somewhere, but don't remember it exactly.

Even so, if I get my link(s) on a page with PR3 along with 50 others' links, then the link value is diluted by a certain factor. More links=more dilution in value.

    Correct or not?

This is correct. A page with loads of outbound links is worth less than an equivalent page with less links.

But I would take a link from a PR8 *page* with 100 outbound links over a PR0 page with just mine anyday.

I've been wondering about this for a long time and can report that from my experiments only the first 4-5 links on a profile get counted. It seems like any more don't ever really show up in GWT, but the first 1-5 get a ton of links, with 2, 3, 4, and 5 getting less and less percentages of links. I'm not sure why this would be, but I've tracked it over the course of around 4 months.

2-3 links is probably the sweet spot, but only 1 is obviously better for a lot of reasons. It just takes a lot more time only putting a single link on each profile.
