Ranking "Service Website" with little content

Hi,

You know that quality content or articles is one of the main ranking factors for Google.

But what we can do if the website type is "service website".

Like, for example, a website that provides rental service for audio/video AV equipment.

Or a company that provide plumbing service.

This kind of websites is service-based websites.

They don't have much content or articles to add to their website.

My question is:

Is content and article really important to Google?

That means, if the website has few pages and content will not rank well on Google?

What is the solution/idea to improve the visibility of these websites in google search?

    You are right.

If I write good content and many article, then I can rank.

BUT you still don't answer my question, or you don't understand it.

    Take this scenario:

My website is selling a specific services, and I list these services to my website.

Now, listing products or services is not considered as rich content.

Because these services (products) will still the same on the website.

It will not be updated. It will static.

It is like writing content for one time. And then the content will still forever with no updates.

I think this is not good for Google. (please correct me if I am wrong)

I will summarize the problem with service based website:
(( from my understanding, and I maybe wrong))

1 - These website is not content based. That mean, there are only product listings
    with their specification.

Plus these listings could be repeated on other websites that sell the same services/products.

(This may be considered repeated content in Google eyes)

2 - The content is not updated + it is very little compared to content-based websites.

Like imagine if the website is selling only 10 products.
This means there are only 10 pages on the website. (+ home page = 11 pages)

Also, the content will still static for years, and not maintained.

I hope you understand the issue right now.
(sorry my English may not be good, and so cause misunderstanding)

I hope if someone can comment about service-based website with Google.

And tell if it is an issue or not.

    Best Regards to All

      Which is it?

        Thank you Jeffery.

        It is a service website.

And it provides rental service for equipment. This is what I do:

        - I add a new listing (equipment for rent) in the website.
        - I write the specifications of that equipment + locations which the equipment could be served to.
        - I also can list similar equipment of other people and get commission, but still the equipment types is repeated and the description is the same. I mean maybe two people who have the same equipment + specifications ask me to list their equipment in the site.
This may cause duplicated content in the website, right?

There are other similar websites that provide rental services like me.

        Highly appreciate your help

In your case the answer is fairly simple, specifically you only need to tag the original content's URLs as "Canonical URLs":
Google's Policies: Duplicate Content Penalty | Mixed Content Penalty (Block) | Meta Description | PoD Ideas

Use of the "Canonical Tags" will solve Duplicate Content issues, Cross-Domain Content issues, and others.

Just don't overthink it and you'll br fine.

    • I read your all quarries and there answer is first create Google My Business for your business selling the products or services. Come to your website, every single page of your website related to your services it will be needed to index on google and put rich snippets in every single web page to identify the product.

I hope you satisfy this answer ....

It's only worth having content on an eCommerce site if it contains keywords that buyers might use to search for your products or services. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how high that content ranks.

If you can't outrank your competitors for your main keywords, you could try finding several lesser used keywords and rank for those. Or you try placing your keywords in content on relevant sites frequented by potential customers.

And you advertise. Most successful eCommerce sites use both direct and indirect methods of traffic generation.

"You know that quality content or articles is one of the main ranking factors for Google."

I do not know that. I do not even know what it means.

If your bathtub starts leaking next Saturday night at 11PM, what's quality content:
a 2500 word article about plumbing fixtures or a page that only has this info:

    24-hour plumber. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx.

    Well?

Have you ever looked at some of the pages Google ranks on page 3 and compared their content with the page in the 1st position?

Do it for a few keywords, and you'll soon figure out that quality content is not something Google understands.

      Thanks DABK for your response!

If content is not that important to Google...

Then, what will happen if two or more websites provide the same service with the same description?

How Google determine which website should rank higher?

Maybe the one who has more backlinks?
Or the one who do Adwords to improve the organic ranking indirectly?

If it is about backlinks, then how service based website like "plumbing" can get authority backlinks?

      This confused me...

      I think of two options...

Should I create blogs with others domains and start build backlinks for my main website?

Or should I create sub-domain under my main website, and start posting articles to improve the ranking of the main website?

      I appreciate your help.

I wouldn't change domains, or even use a subdomain, since you want to build your domain's authority over time with google. I recommend just using YOUR DOMAIN.COM/BLOG

Then you can have a blog whose sole function is to get traffic for relevant keywords. You can then redirect them to your mail sales page by the main menu and by using internal links.

But you should research which keywords your buyers / prospects are using and center all your articles around those. Experiment with long tail keywords, as well as low competitions key words.

Make 8-10 very long articles full of graffics, videos and high quality content 1000 words or more each. This will get googles attention... Then you can add shorter articles.

          Thanks Rhyan!

Will the blog in "DOMAIN.COM/BLOG" be enough to improve the ranking?

OR it is better to write article on the main domain "DOMAIN.COM"?

          Appreciate your help

I did not say content is not important to Google.

I said there are different ways to judge content quality and that Google does not rank based on the quality of your content.

For local sites, assuming on page is the same, citations and backlinks, with citations and backlinks from local area having a great importance.

        If not local, backlinks.

One thing you seem to be missing is Silos for SEO. Bruce Clay has a good explanation of these.

Give a lot of thought to internal linking.

Make sure your Google Business Page is complete. Post there now and again.

Ever Googled a local business and found Yelp.com or some other such site having 2 pages in the top 3 or 4 spots? Study them.

Google wants to give best results for the search terms.. sometimes it's not only about article type of content. or word count that you written. you really need to understand the search intent of the keywords. that's the main thing you need to think about. then you can decide what kind of content and which keywords you should use. and analysis your competitors to get a better idea.

    Hi there,
I got your point and have come to know that you are working on a service-based website and asking whether uploading amazing content is still compulsory to rank on google.
The point is that content has its significance in its own place which we can't deny. However, there are other things that play a key role in ranking a website. Along with fantastic content, a website should be user friendly and mobile friendly as well (so more people can visit your website and know about your services). Your services must be such as can solve the user's problem.
Keep these points in mind for ranking your website on google. There are a great many service websites that put only a little content and that is enough to get them ranked on google.
    Hope it helps.
    Many thanks.

I think you need to find ways of coming up with content ideas and also start documenting snippets and sharing.

If your having problems coming up with content ideals use groups YouTube comment sections buzzsumo quora and also check out other blogs .

I think you can rank if you produce quality content that interest your readers but you will need to produce more content and upgrade dated content as well .

    You need to understand somethings

There are mainly two types of SEO

    Local & Global

These types of services (as you are asking) is local type services because if you are providing plumber services in wasington DC then no one will call you from London ..... So just manage your website as you want but dont forget to list your business in local directory like google business, bing business, yelp etc. Because only Local citation will give you benefits if you want to get query online also ...... So in last, for these types of services contents are not more important but you can update by submit there recent work or services details.

There are many ways to update website and get attention of search engines for local services.
