Should I Post Press Releases on My Authority Site?

Hey Everyone...a couple questions on publishing press releases on my authority (hope to be) site:

1. Is it advisable to post RELEVANT press releases on my site...and have relevant internal links from the PR's to my authority pages?

2. To start, I will have roughly 1 new well-written authority post per week on the site but PR posts every day. Will that 'dilute' the authority of the site?

Any input on this would be appreciated.

  • What's your goal?
    Why do you care about the authority of your site? Are you thinking your domain authority is going to go down? Your spam score?


    Neither is relevant to anything, unless you sell backlinks.


    How do you have press releases daily? What do you do that's worthy of a press release every day?


    Backlinks from press release sites tend to have the nofollow tag, so they do not pass juice. Most press releases will not send you any visitors.


    So, what are you after?

  • a press release could be good for product launches.

    Since PR carry no follow links, no authority gained, however, you may see in-direct benefits, probably nothing to brag about.

    You may see temp traffic gains but will return to normal once the article is out of site, and out of mind.

    PR is good for link diversity if your ancor/text ratios are out of balance.

  • My 2 cents... get authority first and then posts relevant PR's.
  • Sorry I wasn't clear:

    These would be press releases from OTHER companies, not my own...that are in my niche.

  • I dont know that the PRs would be dilutive, per se, but I do wonder whether there are more effective means to establish your domain expertise. Is your niche big enough that it generates a high volume of read-worthy articles you might curate and post - with a short introduction to tee them up? (Jason Hirschorn used to do this with his MEdia Redef newsletter, for ex). If generating multiple pieces of new long form content weekly isn't tenable, perhaps shorter form pieces telling the "story" of select areas of the niche's history, or of key concepts your weekly readers may want to more deeply understand, is worth thinking about? (Sahil Bloom and 10-k Diver do a great job of this in the Finance niche on Twitter).

    PRs can be informative, but might not be particularly additive when it comes to developing *your* site's "voice." IMO it might be worth thinking about other ( not necessarily hugely labor intensive) ways to differentiate your site/its voice.

    • I should add: this is an SEO tagged thread, so, to DABK's point, understanding your objectives for SEO specifically would be helpful (the guidance I gave relates more to general audience building)
