No drop in traffic for any of our sites but there is one thing I would like to point out that seems to be part of this core update ... "Position 0" (a.k.a. the Feature box) no longer exists. What I mean by that is that if your page is selected for the feature box (e.g. "best trampoline to buy"), it no longer will appear in the regular SERP results.

The feature box has now become position #1 - you no longer get a double listing on the same page (e.g. feature box and #3).

I could be wrong about this but I tried a dozen or so searches and in every case, if you were in the feature box, you were no longer part of the SERPs on any other page for that search.

No, most site owners did not lose traffic. For every site that lost rankings, other sites gained.

People who benefit from updates are mostly quiet about it, don't want to gloat and keep on working, and thus it seems like mostly, people lose traffic.

Google updates its algorithm several hundred times per year. Some are more "major" than others but they all center around the same principles - quality content that is relevant to the query and quality signals - both user signals and external links from respected, reputable, relevant websites. Everything algorithm tweak is just refining those basic things.

You're definitely missing one of those components if your website falls after any update. Gaming the system with junk links and manipulative, crappy content only works for so long. Eventually, algorithm tweaks always catch up.

Well at first when the update started to roll. Or, some might argue that when Google announced it anyway. For one heavy hit site. We lost a lot of traffic and then after 24 hours later we gained huge chunks of traffic.

And then again a large part of the traffic was lost later that day and again it did came back .. Its pretty much the same roller coaster for most of the sites.

At the end of the update. Or again some might argue on this too. We pretty much remained the same. All the '+'s and '-''s have cancelled out each other.

    I got hit significantly.

In a positive way: https://ibb.co/Ypx8jht (ignore the last data point for the current day)
    • +50% hits so far
    • long-tail especially

    I'm not complaining.
