I usually just start building backlinks. If you've submitted your site to Google for indexing and submitted a sitemap, there's really no point in waiting. Those links are going to be there whether or not you're site is indexed by Google (and they'll still be there when it does get indexed). Plus the quality backlinks will help you get indexed quicker.

backlink is the path or way of the search engine spider, enable to index your site you need a backlink, a indication that your site is existing.
Yeah, total agree with you guys!

Backlinking is more important, your site will get index naturally, don't worry. Just build more links to it!

Yes absolutely. Once my new site is up, I start my backlinking and article submission and put adsense on it. In fact I would say the backlinking is going to help your new site get indexed faster.

Google is always in active indexing. So it won't matter if your site has been indexed already and you start building links. Either way, it's still the same.

That's exactly what I do, and my page index faster as compare to just submitting to search engine!

    article submissions
    blog commenting
    classified ads
    directory submissions
    forum posting
    link exchange
    press release
    online groups

I wish that's all, however, many times the link will not be index by Google, if it doesn't link from the home page.

Many forum links might had this problem, you can ping the link to make sure it will be discover by Google.

I don't have time to wait for google to index my pages. My pages are on different sites and sometimes on new web 2.0 props - so I start backlinking to the un-indexed pages to leave a crumb trail for Google to follow and then index my newly written page.

Yes, I do that all the time! You don't need to wait for Google to follow and index your page, that would be too long.

One of the key component in SEO success, start small, experiment and experience, so that it won't take too much time to understand the basic concept - Links!

After you know the basic, just scale it up to a higher level! When I found that High Domain PR authority links work well, I started to collect more to my site, and guest what? All my targeted pages ranked on page 1!

Before I learned the "post new site in your sig" trick, I had a devil of a time getting this one site indexed. I knew it would be a huge adsense payoff so I started a round of yahoo answers and chacha.com questions.

I was able to make a pretty significant amount of money in this manner, before the site itself was ever indexed, because these question/answer pages, which had my URL link, were indexed on page #1 position #1-5 for several weeks.

This site finally indexed after a week or so and debuted at #8, it slid up to #4 (no further backlinking) and it shot up to #2 this Monday, passing all the Q&A sites handily and has sat there all week.

Based on that completely unscientific example, I'd say it does not hurt to backlink before indexing.
