Direct Traffic in Analytics

Hi All

In some articles, almost said that traffic will defined with "direct" when user directly type some url in browser, but i got confuse and affraid about that.

Do you think if someone visit abc.com/xyz and close it, and when another time they try to type "ab" browser suggest "abc.com/xyz" because it recorded in history, when they click this suggestion, analytics will count it as direct traffic?

Or anyone have some clue based in yout own experience?

Yes, direct traffic is when you manually type the url in thi address bar, so if someone starts typing on the address bar and their browser suggests a url from their stored visits history and they decide to visit that site, it is also considered direct traffic.

Referred traffic is the one you get from links that are not on your site a.k.a. traffic that comes link building which Eric Ward was an expert of, and then there is search engine traffic, and others as social media, and paid.

Well, easiest way to get an answer is to test and try whatever makes
you confused yourself. Did you you try to see what would happened?

I think both the cases are considered as Direct Traffic. And whenever google analytics is not able to determine the origin of the traffic source, it reports that traffic as direct traffic.

  Yes I have had this sutuation on young websites: I've had clicks from other sites and even from analytics, and google marked those as direct traffic

Same problem with me, but I have got the solution to it here. Now it is clear that it will be counted as direct traffic.

According to Analytic, direct traffic is counted by typing the direct URL. If clicked on that URL through one of the sites then it will come in referral traffic.
