AdWords and Basic Local Search

I have a general adwords question.

Just so I'm clear if I geo-target a campaign, then can I freely use a very general word like "plumber", knowing full well that it will be limited to that search area?

Normally for my geo-targeted searches (e.g. 20 miles within area X), I've been using adwords keywords like:

plumber anywhere, CT
plumber CT
plumber city #2, CT

It feels a bit awkward using such broad keywords since in my organic SEO projects I (generally) wouldn't waste time tying to compete against a national/global audience for the keyword "plumber".

Thanks.

  • Hi There you are on the right track. I would extend the radius to 50 miles. Start of by using the general keywords at first. I hope that helps.
