About duplicated content and test website? SEO problem

Hello,

We currently renew our company website with new content and design.

Our developer has created a test website with a new domain.
The test website for developing purposes to add the new content and prepare the new design; so that when everything is complete, we will be publish to the real company website.

My question is:

Will this considered as duplicated content when we publish to the real website?

The new content has been published to the test website and some of the content is already appeared on google search.

The test website is two weeks old only.

I am afraid when we publish to the real website, the new content will not rank because google will consider it as duplicated content (even though it is our content but in test website).

I would like to get your recommendations.

Do you recommend me to shut down the test website?

If I close the test website, what about the content? can I published it in the real website? or has google already marked it as existing content and I need to create new one?

Also, what the developer should have done instead of creating test website this way?
Is there another method to test website during the development phase without affecting the original website?

Best Regards

  • I assume the test website will no longer exist. In that case, it couldn't possibly be duplicate content.

I find it very odd that a test website was discovered by Google. You wouldn't submit it to Search Console and you wouldn't link to it anywhere (unless you did on Facebook or somewhere to show people what you were doing - if so, that was a mistake). Minus those two things, Google would never know the site exists.

By the way, duplicate content ranks all over the web. The myth about duplicate content penalties is one that has been debunked over and over again - even by Google, themselves.
  • No, it's not.
    1. If G. would think so, then some part of Internet would ceased to exist.
    2. Only copyrighted content would be considered duplicate and only if it's not
uses accreditation but even then, that would be legal issue and not Internet related.

That known as Google Sandbox used by Google to keep websites visible
in SERP but without ranking them. So, as soon crawler would find new site,
it goes to the top sometimes to first 100 links.but not for long. It's sort of
Google is telling you - 'hey, don't worry, we got you'.

Up to you but I would keep it around for a while and would use 301 later.
The reason would be that new domain will be getting recognition and age
at the same time if you decide to use it one day.

If you keep test site, you can add to it
    <meta name="author" content="your site">

Stop worrying, your site would be fine.

Well, this is the only way to test-run new web site.

    • Yes, but you have to start new without hijacking other people's thread.
