Will these pages harm the SEO of my blog?

Hi there,

If I put download pages and thank you pages on my blog, will it harm the SEO rankings?

As these pages will be pretty thin and will have no links to them internally for obvious reasons, it has me concerned about the effect it could have on my blog.

I want to build my blog up to drive traffic, so it's not just a case of throwing the pages up.

What is the best solution?

No index the pages -- will that be enough?

Warm regards

Colin

Google does not rank websites, it ranks individual pages. So no, those pages won't harm your SEO or affect the ranking of your other pages.

No creating download page will not be harmful to you blog. There are many cases in that we need to add noindex on the pages and Google has introduced these tags to help us only. So nothing to worry!

Really, whether you noindex them or not, it won't affect your ranking of other pages. People get far too involved in minutia like this and don't spend their time concentrating on what really matters - creating the best page on the entire web about the subject matter and then getting prominent, related websites to link to it - over and over again for each term you are trying to rank for.

Download pages and thank you pages will not affect at all. When it comes to traffic you will need to have a competitors analysis and keyword research for you to have a content outline for creating a unique and interesting piece to outrank them.

  • No, it will not harm. The whole website, Google see.

It is safe to use thank you pages on your blog because Google ranks your website by monitoring the contents and links. As you have not linked the thank you pages to your content, it would not affect the ranking. However, if you plan on no-indexing, note that your primary agenda is to drive traffic, whereas no-index will not allow users to view your blog in their search results. But if you are confident about your blog content, then go ahead with this. Proper keyword research and information on your content will hook the audience anyway.

No, it will not hurt at all. Google will simply ignore those pages as far as ranking is concerned, and the rest of the pages will not be hurt. In fact, those might be seen as credibility to your website, so though it won't help any particular page to rank but in general it could add a bit positive brownie (ranking) points to Google's mind favoring your site - for all I know!
