Having our own original article in multiple places

Hi guys,

If I write an original article and post it on my blog, and then the same article is being published elsewhere as guest posts, is that considered as duplicate entry that could potentially affect the SEO ranking by Google?

Thanks.

    Hi,

I would not go down the path of publishing the same post in different outlets. It's better to write a good content piece and try to reach out to other publishers who could either link to it or quote you.

Mere idea of publishing that same article elsewhere could be spammy.

Uhm yes, the same exact article in two different places is the very definition of "duplicate". One or the other website will get the better search rankings for it - probably the one with the greatest authority (will that be your page?).

Absolutely, yes! Publishing the same piece of content in more than one place is considered duplicate by Google and it negatively affects your search engine rankings.

If you want to explore the content syndication sites like Medium, LinkedIn Purse, etc. to repurpose your existing content, what you simply need to do is wait for at least two weeks to get your content indexed by Google, canonicalizing the indexed URL first before repurposing the content in other sites. This way you won't have problems with Google ranking for reusing your content elsewhere. And while doing that, you don't have to copy the entire article, but simply use the most important points only.
