I have a 15yr old website with a keyword as the domain name.
basically it's https: /ibluewidget.com in the lending niche.
Does the "i" hurt the keyword?

AHREFs 0.7 DR
DA 17 PA 31

It's a legit business; no business address listed on site. It is work from home or office & operates with a state license so there's business available in each city within the state.
all work is done online, just gathering an application.

There's a lot of spam backlinks approx. 170 (unsure how they got there), and about 5 high DA/PA contextual links (not social networks) that have 10-20 Referring domains

It ranked well about 6 years ago on the 1st 2 pages but has been replaced by competitor's with a real address and not even on the top 10 SERP pages.

I could probably get 25-40 more good links in 30 days but there's still toxic crap links.
I can't really get those treasured high authority local citation links
I am not a fan of GWT or Search console or whatever Google wants you to use.
What would you do?
let the website go or continue to build sold backlinks

Not sure what you want to hear. The domain sounds worthless. It has 2 decent links and no traffic. A keyword rich domain name doesn't matter at all in Google these days. The bad links also don't matter.

Do you want to build it into something worthwhile or move on to something else?

the domain seems like a victim that's permanently scarred.

would you trust a site that has ikeywordproduct.com or tru nameofservice experts.com?

Most normal people don't give two shits what the domain name is. They don't even look at it.

Remove low quality links / spammy links .

Buy or Build Quality backlinks to your site to rank .
Only quality backlinks will generate the best seo results and actually increase your website traffic and rankings on search engines .

You have to be patient and cautious in order to generate quality backlinks .
A website traffic dictates the level of authority in which the backlinks is serviced .
Websites with high traffic are more coveted to be listed on and rank higher .

I think letting the domain go is not a viable option. You need to get rid of the toxicity and get yourself some quality links. Besides, the Google keep rolling out updates and you need to adhere to them to make sure your site is ranked in SERPs. Its just the SEO that matters now UI/UX matters too.

I do not thin the i at the beginning hurts.

But you're focused on DA and PA and does have nothing to do with ranking.

The toxic links, what makes them toxic?

    Google just ignores bad links.

If you're not ranking, assuming you've done your onpage SEO properly, it's because your competitors have more backlinks of equal quality or fewer but better quality backlinks.

To rank, get more or better or more and better backlinks than they have.

(They will counter, so you'll have to do it again. And they will counter...such is the nature of SEO.)
