Is ranking both local and National at the same time possible?

Hey guys, when starting a new online business in which you wish to get customers both locally and nationally, can this be done at the same time? Let's take a universal service like Web Design or Remote Support, you build a new site for it and want customers to find you on google anywhere in the US or even globally, how do start setting up your website for this purpose please regarding location info and keywords?

    Why would it not be possible?
    It is just a question of skill and resources.

    If you have limited resources, it makes more sense to go for one location first, so as to make money to fund other location rankings.

    But it is possible.

    Sure you can do both at the same time. One may show results earlier than the other but just as long as you manage your own expectations you should be all set!
