What should I put for SEO on school website?

Apart from keyword research and content marketing, what SEO strategy do I need to use in a school website?
My client's website traffic has gone down significantly since July 2021 and the keyword rankings that were good earlier are no longer the same. We have written a lot of content blogs for the website of this school, yet the ranking is not improving.
Please suggest what to do for getting good organic traffic and a better ranking position.
Thank you

Stop writing a lot of content, focus on getting traffic.

If your school is a local one, do a lot of citations (correctly) and some SEO. If it's not local, do a lot of SEO. SEO means more than put the keywords in the title, alt text and such, it means get backlinks... Might want to look into the skyscraper technique. And silo structure for SEO.

Have you checked the SEO of the page at number 1 for your keywords? How about the #1 result on the maps (if local)?

For local SEO, citations are very important.

For backlinks, there are many ways: look at www.backlinko.com for the skyscraper technique and more.

If you want SEO traffic, strategy matters too.

You could try to rank for the main keyword in your industry and never get to #1, so no, or next to no, traffic.

Or you can find all the keywords that get less than 100 searches a month (Google keyword tool) and try to rank for those. For many of them, you'll rank just from having the keyword in the title.

Each keyword will get you only a few visitors, some maybe only 2 or 3 a month, others 20 a month. But I'm betting there's a few hundred of them, and if you're at the top for all of them, you can end up with hundreds or thousands of visitors a month.

Local SEO also known as local citations

local citations are business data directory websites that allow website masters to submit their website and address and etc.

yellowpages and websites like that are useful....hmm, give me a second and i'll send you a link to a website that I used for local seo before...https://www.sitereq.com/post/top-100...s-list-for-seo

I think you should also focus on SEO title and tags as well as social bookmarking and creating youtube videos.

tubular insights is stating that video is about 80% by the end of the year...baes on the younger generation and the growing rise of better internet speed, that isnt hard to estimate.
The other thing is to convert your posts into videos.

I would start with the absolute basics, ALL "schools" are local...meaning they have A as in ONE campus... OR getting into Colleges they have a MAIN campus and then satellite campus'.

I would do a search "Locally" as in within 20 miles of the location - meaning you are connected to the internet either by desktop/laptop OR by Cel ( Phone or Tablet ) geographically literally within 20 miles of the school. Type a term like "College" or "Middle School" or "Art School" and see where your client falls.

IF they are not displaying in the 3 pack, click on the "View All" or "More Businesses" at the bottom of the 3 pack and ensure they are at least listed.

Obviously if they are not... you will want to physically take yourself to the front door of the location and in Google Maps Add the location. From there you will then need to work with whoever might be in charge of such things and create a Google Business Profile.

IF the school is listed... A few things to do...

#1 from a distance as in miles... pullup the listing and use the "Directions" option of the Google listing. Follow the directions and ensure there is not a question at the end, like "Where is the main Entrance" or the like.

#2 When you get there take photos of the facility - then add those photos to the Google Maps listing.

#3 Look at the reviews... Are there responses to the reviews? Good bad and ugly - EVERY review should have a response from the school. The analyze the number of reviews... how many reviews does this school have. go back to the search results and look at all of the listings.. how many reviews does the 3 pack have.. how many do the other listings in the "View All" or "More Businesses" listings have. If you pay attention you will see there is a sweat spot...there will be listings with MORE reviews - not good, and listings with FEWER.

If the Facility has more than one location... you need to ensure that ALL locations have listings. A good read: ( https://www.brightlocal.com/learn/ve...ness-listings/ )

Next we can get into "Citations" Citations are not external links pointing to your website.. It is the listing of Name, Address, and Phone Number on other websites. This is specifically called NAP ( Name, Address, and Phone Number )

I would say the short list for schools specifically you want to see your listing on would be:
    • en.wikipedia.org
    • facebook.com
    • education-portal.com
    • campusexplorer.com
    • 50states.com
    • hackcollege.com

So looking at this listing... does the school have a Wikipedia page? Looking at Facebook... in the school Facebook profile page is ALL of the NAP information listed?

I would ensure they are listed on the others listed as well.

YOU WANT TO ENSURE.. that the NAP ( Name, Address, and Phone Number ) is EXACTLY the same as found on the Google Business Profile - and when I say EXACT... spacing, characters ~ (212) or 212 ~ 1-212 or 1 212 ~ As much as they are the same they are different... you want EXACT.

You want to look at other social media accounts; Twitter, Instagram, and whatever else they may have and ENSURE the NAP data is there and correct.

Aside from the list above... you will want to look for LOCAL websites to get your School listed. Dept of Education, work on getting a write up in the local paper... look at past articles and ensure the NAP data is correct... you can actually contact news agencies and request a correction of this data. BBB, Chamber of Commerce, the City Website, They ( the school ) probably has free local hosing of the website from a local ISP... ensure the local ISP website has mention with NAP.

And honestly this is just a START... we haven't even got to the point we are working with "SEO". Or Other Social site content creation - Video, Image, and text.

Get this part... the LOCAL and Citations part right, and the rest will fall into place.

    Hope that Helps!

If your keyword rankings dropped dramatically, you should probably take a break from writing content and see why your existing pages are no longer performing.

It is most likely a technical issue, so I would start by checking Google Search Console and then run an audit in AHREFS or SEMrush. If you don't have a budget for paid tools, you can use GSC to verify your site ownership in AHREFS to get a free technical audit report. I hope that helps!

If keywords don't have good results anymore, it's clear indicator that something needs to be changed and that you need to repeat it to get the more adequate ones. Also, it's important to highlight here that you really shouldn't focus only on keywords and content marketing, as you need to figure out ways to get more traffic to the site.

To achieve it, try working on backlink strategy, conect with other reliable sources on the internet, be active on other sites and forums, place your linked signature under it. Also, promote your client's site extensively, publish it on social media, if it's possible, make some Google ads with right audience targeting as well, or school you can even do some local SEO and focus on getting good reviews from previous students, and so on. Target more fields at once, don't put effort only on one method.

Most of the schools run in the local area so I think you're also running your school locally. My suggestion is use local seo for this. Try to create a Google Business Profile and submit your school details and website in local citations. For local SEO, citations are very important. Create social media pages and try to engage students and their parents.

Most people pick seed keywords out of thin air. Or they use Seed Keywords that they THINK people use in Google. This tool is super helpful because it helps you find seed keywords that people actually use to search. so i think so if you pick those keywords which are use by the most of the users so may be your traffic will increase
