Adwords Not Making Sense! Pls Help

Hi Everyone I have a quick question regarding Adwords.

I know Google Adwords works on a bidding system to where the highest bidder's ad get shown on the first page of the search result. I have come up with a list of long tail keywords and on most of them when I search for it in Google there is only one PPC ad showing.

Ok so I put my bid for that keyword phrase at 30 cents. At first I was showing on the google search page 1. Then today I am not showing because it says the minimum bid for page 1 is $1.75 even though there is still only 1 advertiser bidding on that keyword phrase.

This has happened with about 10 keyword phrases now.

What is going on?

Cheers

Probably you have a low QS (quality score). Check it out. If it's low here are a couple things you can try:

    1. increase the keyword density of your landing page
    2. improve your ads (make sure your KWs appear in your ads)
    3. Try to get a higher CTR

Check you landing page Quality Score. More often than not, thats your problem. If your not using a relevant landing page to the keywords your bidding on, then you will get slpped by google

where does it say your ad position is ? do not worry about what it says min bid for page one, this will often happen and not sure for the reason, I read it some where. your page score is OK for now and as it ages and your ad ctr improves gets history this should rise.

if there only one other ad keep your bid price low as second spot for nickles n dimes sounds OK, also go to your tools section and there is a preview section there to see if you ad is running.

I have a few keywords in my campaign that has no advertisers bidding on them and when I do the search in Google no PPC ads show up. I put my bid at 30 cents for the keywords and Google says that to be on page one min bid is $1.00 I left it at 30 cents did a search on Google for keyword and my ad doesn't show. In fact no ads are showing.

      Makes no sense

        Hi Jan,

While a QS of 6/10 is okay, it is not great. You will probably need to improve the QS of the keyword to get those lower priced bids to generate impressions.

First, are you bidding on the exact match keyword, or is it phrase or broad match? Exact match versions of the keyword will always be cheaper.

The QS is made up primarily of your CTR history for the keyword. A better written ad can help produce a higher CTR which will improve your QS and allow a lower minimum bid.

Have you been testing various ad text to see which generates the highest CTR? You may need to temporarily raise your bids to get impressions and then through testing ad text variations you can find a version that generates superior CTR and this will raise your CTR while lowering your minimum bid.

Hi Don, I know that a quaity scoe of 6 isn't great and that the ctr is important to bring down cpc but my question is this. As far as I understand Google works on a bidding system. They take quality score, ctr and also the number of people bidding ona keywords and then they use some math equation to decide who gets on the first page and for what price.

Now, If nobody is bidding on a keyword (exact match) except for me with a bid of 30 cents shouldn't I be showing on the search result? This is what I don't understand. I am the only advertiser bidding on a keyword but yet I still have to pay over a dollar to be on page 1.

            Hi Jan,

AdWords always has a minimum bid for an ad on any given keyword. Your bid not only must meet that minimum, but it must meet the equivalent of the minimum after you bid score is adjusted to factor in your QS. So if the minimum bid is $0.10 for a QS 10/10 it might be 0.50 for a QS 7/10, $0.70 for a QS 6/10 and $1.00 for a QS 5/10. The lower your QS the higher your minimum bid requirement.
