Which are your methods to get backinks?

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to get some free traffic to my blog. As I know one of the most important things to do is getting backlinks from other sites. How do you do it? Do you use some software?

Any advice is useful for me, and I'd appreciate your help.

    To improve your Blogs search engine visibility and ranking, as you have noticed you need to create backlinks and other links. If it's a google blog they also love Video(because they own You Tube)
    Don't forget to ping your blog at pingomatic.com and submit it to Technorati. Also try some of these, although they aren't all free.

    In general try to build links using the following tips:
    1. Exchange links with other bloggers
    2. Use BlogRush (I think they've closed down)
    3. Submit to RSS directories
    4. Submit to blog directories (as above)
    5. Submit to general directories
    6. Start a 2nd blog and link to yourself (or 3rd , 4th, 5th)
    7. Create and give away blog themes (with a link to your blog in the footer)
    8. Create free plugins
    9. Create link bait
    10. Participate in blog carnivals
    11. Comment on DoFollow blogs
    12. WordPress Backlinks Plugin (link removed due to possible security issues) COMMUNITY:
    13. Join communities at MyBlogLog
    14. Join communities at Bumpzee
    15. Join communities at Blog Catalog
    16. Start a community at any of these sites
    17. Comment on other blogs in your niche
    18. Email your friends and contacts about a new blog post that may interest them
    19. Email your readers to say "thank you"
    20. Email other bloggers to introduce yourself
    21. Link out to other blogs

    • Blog commenting is the best way to get backlinks, dont forget about Bookmarking your site and make Guest posts for another blogs, (with a link to your site)
  • "Free traffic" is not really free. You must figure the value of your time or the cost of outsourcing for implementing all of these good recommendations, above.

    The key is to get long term value for your investment (time + money). A solid article marketing strategy will provide such benefits over the long haul.

    Add to that a high conversion rate with repeat customers, and you can succeed.

  • Is making posts on google groups or yahoo groups a good way to get backlinks?
    Because it seems to me that this is a waste of time, everyone there are trying to promote their sites, nobody, I think, actually reads anybodyelse posts.

    How do you guys manage the time on making social media, blog comments and posts, forum signatures, etc.? It takes a lot of time for me to do all these over and over. What were the first 3 things for bringing free traffic you made after setting up a new blog?

  • I would personally ignore the bit about submitting to directories TBH. Most are completely ignored by Google nowadays. Spend the time reading and learning from quality SEO sites and forums instead.

    I own a few directories and even I am selective.

    I submit to a handful of quailty directories. I also will do a submission where I find a top competitor listed when checking their backlinks.
