Did you search for your URL in quotes to check? Or just checking if you are ranking for keywords?

Is this a new site? If so, sometimes the bot visits first and it indexes when Google updates, sometimes a week or more.

If it's a Wordpress site try checking Setting/Privacy and make sure you're not blocking the searchengines.

It's a new site but not a wordpress site.
It's been over a week now.
The interesting part is that when I search for the URL I get all the backlinks that I have posted so far. For instance I get my Digg backlink and some blog comments.

Yes but no luck. I'm going to writre to my webhost if it's not indexed yet in a week to see if there is anything going on on their servers that might prevent google from indexing my site.

I also face this situation and until now I don't know why.

You are in the sandbox. As time progresses your site will be crawled and indexed more deeply. And once you are released from the sandbox, your SERPS should go up.

Are you new to wordress? Did you set the privacy to allow your pages to be indexed?

Look at the source of one of your pages. Look for noindex in the header section of the page. If you see that, that's your answer.

WP by default disables indexing of pages.

Check your site under webmaster tools, make sure their isn't any errors there, and make sure the domain isn't black listed from a previous bad history.

Webmaster tools is a good thing. It gives some clues when Google thinks you have screwed up. Not many bit some.
It also helps to submit a sitemap through there.

Have you looked at your robots.txt file to see if there are any problems or that you are blocking your site?
If you want to post your URL or PM it to me I'll have a look and see if I see anything amiss.

Thanks for your offer I'll send you a PM. I checked with the webmaster tool and it says that my robot file is blocking the access. The problem is that I don't have a robot file uploaded to my server yet.
