Hello,

I am just about to start a link building campaign on a new site, my question is do i:

a) Use the new domain i have bought? (Will SE's penalise me if they see all of a sudden i have lots of new links)

b)Buy an old indexed aged domain from somwhere (where is the best place for these?)

Thanks,

I always check out the auctions first to see if any domain is available that would work for me. If I have to compromise I would rather get the fresh domain and start from scratch. You can also get 'new' domains that have been registered in the past. I actually picked one up that I thought was new but is actually over 4 years old.

I personally haven't had any issue with hitting sites with 100's of links from the first week or so but building 1000's of spammy ones might not be wise. Keep them steady and you should be cool bananas.

Old, pre-owned, domains are great when they have pre-existing links, especially to the index/root. If they're keyword target and/or indexed by Google, even better.

Don't worry about the speed you build links unless you're using automation tools that can get your site 1000's upon 1000's of links overnight. You can't manually build enough links to your site to cause you any problems. Also remember that sites that go viral get 1000's of links very quickly, from diverse sources, and don't have a problem either.

As before, don't worry about building links too fast unless you are pounding it with automated link building software.
Godaddy auction off expired domains , you can pick up an old domain for $5.
Some off these are already getting traffic.

A fresh new domain is easier to work with and spidered initially faster just leave it as a 404 until your ready to launch.

There is nothing worse than google spidering your brand spanking new domain with a placeholder from your hosting company. It can take days for google to update its cache.

As for using a second hand domain - I would never really buy one just cos of the backlinks it has unless the original website was still live and you were reworking it.

As soon as google see's a change in hosting, registra, admin contact details and content its effective PR is just dropped and you have to start again - so unless its a 'brandable' domain dont bother.

The only advantage of buying a second hand domain with inks to it is if the incoming links are producing traffic - and that traffic is looking for a similar product that your going to sell.

I've got several PR3-PR4 pre-owned domains that disagree with this assumption.

In all honesty I have no direct experience, only hear say.

I cant say I have never looked at countless websites on getting dropped domains but I have never gone through with it to test.

If you do get a dropped domain with backlinks does the new site have to be on the same 'theme' to match the incoming anchor text in order to retain its relevancy.

It helps, because you will continue to get traffic based on the existing anchors for a while and boosting it with new matching content will certainly help. You can build on the pre-existing authority that way. It's an excellent shortcut. Some of my better Adsense niche sites were done this way.

However, it isn't necessary if you don't want to do it.

Remember also that I'm talking about domains that haven't been deleted but that were purchased at the end of the redemption period and put back into action almost immediately. What you mentioned can happen if you let the domain sit around parked for months. The old links can get counted again, even if the domain has been officially deleted, in the natural course of things but it takes a lot longer.

You can go to google and type in domain auctions, but some tend to sell higher priced domains. I usually go to tdnam.com $5 auctions (godaddy), and check them at dnscoop.com, the domains haven't been dropped yet and the owner could still renew them, but if they don't it takes about a week.

    >> Will SE's penalise me if they see all of a sudden i have lots of new links

    the short answer is YES

the long answer is, as long as you don't use a ridiculously large automation service generated link campaign, you should be ok

    >> Buy an old indexed aged domain from somwhere

    most likely not worth it

better to have a new domain that matches all the keywords in your main keyword
