Question Related to keyword research

Hi all, I am doing keyword research for my client who has a guest posting website and wants to get some traffic on his website. I want to get suggestions from the experts on whether should I use KGR keywords or find other low-competitive keywords with high search volume.
If I go to KGR keywords then I have to choose those keywords that have a search volume of 250 and publish at least 20 to 25 articles for a better average search volume. If I target these keywords then the total volume for 20 articles will be 4000+.

  • KGR is complete bullshit and always has been. It's the dumbest concept in digital marketing I have ever seen.

It's stupid because it considers how many search results show up in Google's search index as a difficulty factor.

How many search results there are tells you absolutely nothing about how difficult it will be to rank in the top 3.

  • Adding to MikeFriedman's comments, the ONLY competition that matters is who is on page one. If it is loaded with big name companies, you'll find it next to impossible to land on page one anywhere (and if you're not on page one, you might as well not be on any results page). If there are several no-name small niche companies on page one, you stand a decent chance.
  • I think you should go to the Google trends , Google insight to get those keywords which are in the recent times ..
  • The best option for your client will depend on their specific goals and resources. If they are looking for long-term traffic growth, then KGR keywords may be a good option. Low-competitive keywords with high search volume may be a better option if they are looking for more immediate traffic.

    • Nope... The number of results has nothing to do with how easy it's going to be for you to rank. What matters the most is what #1 is doing. Then #2, then #3. Number one gets about 30% of the clicks, #2 gets about 12, #3 gets 8. That's half of the traffic.

Low competitive keywords with lots of traffic are not used by people ready to buy. Some of the users are not even buyers. Not for the faint of heart. Or revenue-desiring people.

  • KGR keywords may have limited search volume. Alternatively, exploring other low-competitive keywords can help you target a wider audience.

  • Whilst there might be some merit in the KGR method it's not perfect and I don't personally use it or know many seasoned SEO's or marketers that do.

Also, good luck finding genuine low competiton keywords with high search volume these days - those are rare and harder and harder to come by now everyone has access to the same tools and all the big media sites are SEO savvy now.

Unless your client is already a well established authority site they will struggle to rank for competitive, high searched, keywords.

I personally do most of my keyword research using the tool called LowFruits these days as it finds genuine low competition keywords by finding search results that have low domain authority sites, forums, Reddit, and other user generated content sites ranking which are typically easy to outrank with a decent SEO optimized blog post.

Most of the other SEO tools, including the major ones, tend to use flawed data and metrics to determine what are "low competition" keywords and you'll often find that the ones they say are low competition are actually difficult.

Another alternative to LowFruits is Keyword Chef, it works on a similar method to LF.
