How many backlinks do I need?

Hi All,

I want to optimize one of the pages on my website for keyword "zeta clear" which has 89000 optimized results in Google. The page I want to optimize is not in the first 100 results for this keyword.

How many and what quality links per month should I create to show up (asap) in the top 3 results in Google and avoid being banned? How many links in total?

P.S. Yes, I know, no-one can guarantee me first page position but I just need a "gestimate" (gestimate = educated guess) from a person with experience in SEO.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

    I'd throw 50-100 profile type backlinks plus an addition 20-50 blog comments at your page and see what happens.

    I think the answer is: "you need enough to push you up in the serps." That number may be 10 really good links or 1000 fairly poor ones. It is very hard to tell without considering the quality of the links that the competing sites have.

    For instance, if all of the links to the competing sites come from PR6 and above sites, you will need a lot of backlinks to help. If they come from PR- and PR0 sites, you might be able to beat them with only a handful of PR 6 and above links.

        Then you have to do some back linking.. as many as you can but don't try to overdo it, as Google might notice the jump in the number of links to your site.. Postive results will follow.. Just be patient..

    in similar situation i take the most backlinked websites and add 10% over few weeks it should work that way
