Hi, I have been soaking up the great info on this forum. But I have to ask for your thoughts on a competitive niche like web hosting.
My question is: If I have a long term goal in mind, like maybe a years worth of blog posting (at least 300 posts), will that be enough to get any kind of traction? I am talking about quality original posts.
I had planned on adding affiliate links as well as adsense. But is it worth the time or should I just market with ppc, or maybe just stay out of that niche?
Thanks, Matt

I think only you need is a good strategy. With a good strategy you don't need a years of work with only one niche, especially if you will write a good and quality articles for your site
Also you can research you niche and check is that profitable or not.

Thanks Marko, Would only building backlinks by blog commenting be worthwile? Or does a guy need to do article marketing?

What do you mean by "web hosting" niche?

If you mean real web hosting, do you own a web hosting service?
      Are you partnering with one?

I imagine the web hosting niche, as you put it, is hogged by the major
players. If you mean a blog on "web hosting," not really sure how you
could fill that up with info that's not already covered by the major
players. Not even sure a blog would be needed for web hosting.

Unless you mean something else by "web hosting."

Or are you just tossing out web hosting as an example?

Paul, I don't own a web hosting service. I was going to have a affiliate campaign going on this blog. I was also going to get into content management topics as well.

Maybe you are right, maybe there is no need for even more information in a niche that is already covered quite well.

I guess it looked like a worthy goal since I see that adwords keywords for hosting are going for $3 - $6 per click and content management keywords are going for $10. I guess I saw dollar signs in my eyes for potential adsense clicks.

    Thanks for your replies.

I think it's more than enough. You've found a niche, you know it's profitable, and you're going to be writing tons of content.

My recommendation, however, is that you get an auteresponder in there to capture leads. You want to be able to get them back over and over again. And since they'd be there anyways...

If you can go in there, and f'ing dominate then go for it. But anyways, looks like you've made up your mind.
