Website Lost 95% Traffic Last 2 Years

Hi folks,

Bit of a hail mary here as I'm completely out of ideas. I've been running a website for nearly 15 years. Took a few years to get up and running but it was doing great for 5-6 years, 100-500k PV's daily.

Since around the time of the PSI update, the website has tanked. We now get about 5-7k PV's daily. Our new content doesn't even rank on the first page, our older content has dropped down the SERPS.

We hired a local "SEO Company" 2 years ago to revamp the UX and improve the websites technical performance. Long story short, thousands spent, nothing achieved. Have worked with a number of other SEO companies the last two years. Various fixes/improvements etc, but site is continuing to decline.

(link removed per forum rules) - I have added the link to my about me page

Any kind of help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Spent my entire adult life on this website and this fading away stuff is hard to swallow.

Thanks!

I can't explain what happened with your traffic, maybe people lost
    interest in your topic.

What I can tell you is that it's a big mistake to put all your eggs in
one basket by having only one website.

In all these years, you should have set up additional websites and
developed other income streams, even when your website was
    doing great.

It has now turned into a money pit, and nothing is working.

My advice is to work on this site, but set up more online business.

You developed a great website before, and you can do it again.

Interest in the niche has increased, not decreased, so it's not a lack of interest in the topic.

I had no interest in managing multiple websites. I worked 70-90 hours a week most of the time, not much room to work on side projects.

We've had ups and downs over the years but it was usually a big drop because of a big problem. I have no target this time around. It's just a slow decline.

Gaming is a growing industry and your website is very nice.

Maybe your competition is gaining on you.

Or you're not doing enough with your Discord and your socials.

Whatever the reason, I wish you luck in resolving the problem.

The site is now listed in his profile - he didn't realize links are no longer permitted in posts.

Very saturated niche is gaming, difficult to differentiate. I see you are very active on YouTube which would have been my first reccomendation for this niche.

Try some new strategies with your content production, see what works and see what doesn't.

It's sad to hear such news, I'm sure we all understand the ammount of time and effort put into growing a website.

Try not to be so hard on yourelf, sometimes it is just the natural course of events. Most probably it's a combination of things, not just one issue.(supply-demand, changing trends, growing competition and whatnot.)

I have PSI noted as early 2021. If you look here ( https://www.searchenginejournal.com/...rithm-history/ ) you can get a very detailed list of most if not all of the Google updates.

2021 in terms of updates was a pretty epic year... 2022 wasnt far behind.

2020 had 4 noted updates... 2023 had 9 and 2021 had 13, and I personally have noted 6 additional from what is listed above.

2021's most notable updates were for SPAM ( a number of updates here ) spam linking <-- this one with out having seen your site and done some analysis would be my #1 suspect, the Page experience update, and the Local Update in Nov was particularly brutal for many.

These would be where I would start looking. You can use the list and maybe determine time wise where things started going south.

It is hard...been there myself. And I don't have much advice to give here other than 'hang in there' if you have the staying power...just don't get desperate and take black hat shortcuts.

Stick to the basics - creating good quality, unique content and the traffic will bounce back eventually.

Also, I have no idea what niche you are in, but if it makes sense you could try to interview experts in the area and publish the transcript of the interview.

Hope things work out for you!

I suggest you, while you hiring the agency for SEO work. Ask for quality content and follow all the Google updates that are coming in the years, Only focus on white hat SEO. In SEO when you use short cut it harms your website. Over-optimization is also one problem when you hire for an SEO Agency. For now, you focus on relevant quality content and check your competitors who ranked and analyze why they ranked and our traffic is going down. What I can do to improve? Sure you will recover soon.
