How can this be. On my exact name of my domain I have number #1 spot in google but #50 in yahoo.

On the product name itself i have 6 or so links in the top 10 on google out of 500k but in yahoo i am like 300 and 500 area.

I also noticed that my pages with the most back links have a lower ranking example one of my pages has 25 back links that are linked to higher sites like PR 3,4 but it ranking at 25 but one page has 8 back links to page rank 0 ,1 and 1 pr4 site but ranking at #1
##50 #google #yahoo

As long as it's not the other way about !

Google has about 70% of the market share
for searches, so If you are on page 1 with
    the boss, then your fine.

If you want a #1 ranking you want it on Google well before Yahoo, Bing, MSN, or any other SE...as stated above Google has a much larger market share.

The other pages that are ranking on top of your page but has lesser backlinks could be because they have better ON-Page keyword optimization. You may have slightly more backlinks but if your page is not keyword optimized, then you probably need more backlinks to outrank your competition.

    Just my 2 cents =)

  • If I were guessing I would make a relatively simple assumption. GOOGLE AND YAHOO SEARCH ALGORITHMS ARE NOT THE SAME?

I'm being kind of harsh perhaps, but clearly Google is looking at different ranking factors than Yahoo. Unless you have boatloads of authoritative links it's very common to be high in one and not in the other.

also google is normally going to rank a site higher and faster than msn and yahoo. I find that once they get listed with yahoo, they will move up within a few weeks.

Thanks for the info. i was thinking that yahoo mattered as in like you are not in the top 10 in yahoo then you have nothing. I Always thought it was on the same level as google.

Well, just thinking about it in a simple manner, Google is a different company, so the it will rank your sites differently than Yahoo.

I wouldn't sweat it, as long as Google is on your side, you will be fine!

The 2 search engines give different weight to different factors to determine their rankings.

Google rewards mainly relevance and the quality of related sites linking to you.

Google also seems to like age...the longer your site stays at the top of it's search engine for a term the harder it gets to knock it from that site (for many search terms anyway).

Yahoo rewards relevance and the quality of related sites linking to you too but recency is a big factor.

That's why yahoo search results tend to change so much over the course of a month.

Recent content can rank high quite fast on Yahoo and can drop off the rankings very fast too.

        Kindest regards,
