Hi everyone.

I have a question that I've been rolling around and trying to come up with an answer to and I can't.

Everything I read about building backlinks says to keep your backlink building consistent. I have done this day in and day out. As of now, Google has yet to even find the majority of my backlinks but thats irrelevant. So lets say I'm building 1000 backlinks a day(im not, and i'm not even trying to), but for the sake of arguement thats the number I'm giving.

Now, not all of these 1000 backlinks are going to be discovered by Google on the same day. Google might only find 10 of these backlinks one day and then the next day they discover 500. Now this makes things inconsistent and it makes me wonder about the validity of people saying to keep your link building consistent.

To date, i've built probably close to 80 backlinks for 3 of my seperate keywords. The majority of these backlinks have yet to be discovered. When they do start getting discovered, I doubt it will all be in 1 day. It will probably be over the course of a month. So how am I supposed to keep things consistent when I can't control the backlinks getting discovered?

Thanks for any help.

I think consistency in backlinking means that you should continue to force new links until you start getting "natural" links. What you want to avoid is doing a big link campaign for a new site and then nothing for months. But don't worry about how many links Google discovers on any given day and thinking you have to try to match that number. On the contrary, an irregular patern is likely more "natural" then a regular. Just don't go too long without building new links to your site.

Thanks for the response. That puts me a bit more at ease.
For some reason, the only backlinks that Google has picked up so far in the 3 weeks the site has been up are from a very select few social bookmarking sites which is weird.

I bookmarked my posts on probably close to 20 bookmarking sites, but the only links that are showing at backlinkwatch are 5 from 2 different socail bookmarking sites. Does it just take Google longer to find the bookmarks on other sites?

I have also been using Angela and Pauls backlink packets and have done at least 60 backlinks on those sites and not a single one of those links have been found in the two weeks since I added them.

I guess my question would be. How long once your backlinks are discovered by Google does it take for the results to show in your SERPS?

  • I once had a job at a department store. One day we would move the clothes from one part of the store to the other. The next day we moved them back to the EXACT same place they were the day before? Why? Because the "managers" in their infinite wisdom would get in trouble if they didn't keep the "associates" busy when it was slow.

The point being it was just useless busy work.

Lots of not smart activity going on in the world of link building.

You can work all day long making links over and over and the end result is... well see the first paragraph above.

You would be much better off spending your ENTIRE DAY trying to secure just 2 or 3 really high quality links, links on authority pages that get crawled, get ranked and get traffic.

I've been doing this a really long time... started back in 1995, went full time in 2001.

And I am always amused by the people who just "don't get it".

    Happy link building.

      Thanks for your response.

I was under the impression that the sites listed in Angela and Pauls backlink packets were authority sites with high page rank. Several of the sites are PR7 and I've had my links there for well over a week now and haven't seen any results from it yet. I was fairly certain that the backlinks would have been discovered by now.

If you have any recommendations for getting other high PR authority sites relative to my niche to link to me, I'm all ears. This is my first go round with IM and I'm only 3 weeks into it. I think my site is good, and the content is definately unique, just wondering what else I can do to spend my time on.

I try and publish a new article 2 to 3 times a week. Other than that, I was under the impression that I should be trying to build backlinks with the rest of the time. Any recommendations?

Is there a better tool for checking your backlinks than the backlink watch website? If so could someone tell me what it is?

    Hi Jacob,

Here is another backlink analysis tool: SEOmoz | Backlink Anchor Text Analysis Tool

I add to InternetMarketingIQ's comment. I wouldn't spend so much time over analyzing whether or not your links are being counted by these different tools. If you get a link from a decent site, it will be indexed and counted by Google. In fact if you want to know whether or not Google knows about your link, simply check to see if the page your link is on has been indexed. If so, Google knows its there. (Whether or not it's passing much value on to your site is another question.)

If you get a link from a legit site, I can almost guarantee it will be indexed and provide value. Search engines have gotten pretty good at this.

I'm assuming GamingTech.org is your blog. Since you are skilled at writing try contributing some content to a related blog. Not only can you work out a free link from related blog, but you'll be able to tap into someone else's audience and form a relationship with someone in the same field. I'd try some techniques like this for link building--along with creating a ton more content on your site.

Then maybe schedule a time once a month when you analyze your backlinks. Then you'll spend less time analyzing and more time developing content and links for your site.

      McBrett,

Thank you for the positive feedback. I just need some reassurance once in awhile. I know its still very early on in this process and I'm expecting too much too soon, but I can't help it sometimes .

I do have one question about adding content to an affiliate site. Sometimes I feel like my content isn't very great. The majority of the content on my site is geared towards making a sale. I would like to add more valuable and useful content that people would feel good about reading and return, but I have a hard time doing so while also trying to promote an affiliate product.

Would it be a good idea to maybe do some indirect product reviews? Not gear the post towards making the sale but gear it towards answering a common question and just include the fact that my readers can also buy the thing im writing about?

Thanks for all the helpful info. I appreciate it.

Yeah totally a learning process. I'm with you on that one.

Here is one affiliate product review method I really like. Automatic Article Submitter Tutorial – Part 2b | MasonWorld Late Night Internet Marketing

This guy actually purchased the software. Then learned how to use it. Then posted a series of videos explaining how to use the software and why it's so powerful. This is great. So as your learning about the product, your also gaining information on how to use the product. Also, this guy provided his own free product as a bonus when you ordered through his site.

Obviously there are a million different ways you can promote affiliate programs. But I think this is a great case study. By the way I sent a message to your email through GamingTech.org.
