This in regards to a method which i came across through a fellow warrior.

I need some input by experienced SEOs what they think about this.

Without going too much into detail ,the method is a method of keyword research by analyzing web site stats.

For example, there are ways to analyze the stats of a big web2.0 site (like article site etc.) , and in the stats i see that the most traffic to this site is coming from the search phrase "hair loss". <--- EXAMPLE

Now, the logic behind this new way of keyword and niche research is that it is assumed when Keyword X is responsible for the majority of traffic to the site, it is also "easy" to rank for this keyword on this particular site!!

The problem is that i cannot follow this logic.

Some of those analyzed sites have very competitive keywords which do indeed cause most traffic to the site (according to stats)....so does this mean that even if its a competitive keyword, the stats are proof that it is easy to rank for this particular keyword???

Eg. if would write an article optimized for this KW and put it on that web2.0 site it will RANK high and can be considered a "good" and profitable keyword?

Any SEO can explain this logic to me?

Wow... What you have revealed above is pure Gold. If a web 2.0 site is getting traffic from certain keywords. Those "keywords" in effect.. are what you CAN target easily by building web 2.0 properties.
Previously..you'd look for a keyword and then one way of guaging if it was easy to try and rank for it was to check if any web 2.0 properties are present in the top 10.
Doing what you've so inadvertantly shown..will let someone easily find thousands of keywords dominated by web 2.0 properties.
For someone who understands... its a Eureka sorta moment

    Sounds interesting.
I would say the approach requires a second step, however: You need to check the top ranking Web 2.0 pages for backlinks as well.

Because it may be that the article (or whatever) is getting a lot of traffic through searches of a particular keyword, but it might be ranking high in the SERP because the author built tons of backlinks to it over time. In this case, it would not necessarily be easy to rank for that keyword.

What tool do you use to analyze the sites?

I've just looked at Compete.com and it just lists the top 5 referring keywords in the free version. Analyzing a few of those..I realized that they had very little competition..and this makes it even more easier IF one were to have access to ALL of them.
The pro version for Compete costs $199/mo minimum.
I also checked out Alexa ..it lists more than 10 keywords which is good..
To really make use of this.. One would need the Mid level keywords..there would be nuggets of gold in them!
Anyways.. anyone else found a better analyzing tool?

I've been researching this for the past hour or so. There are defintely ALOT of keywords one can find easily if they know which web 2.0 sites to analyze.
The only problem is in finding a free tool that would show more than 10 or so referrer keywords per website.
Either way.. This is still something I never thought of before. Credit to the OP for posting this.
