Recently i have been getting some good 1 way links with the anchor txt i want to rank for, with a blog. However im afraid that google might see this as spammy, if i keep adding links with the same anchor txt. So i need to use other anchor txt like click here, or simply the website url. How could i get backlinks (lots of them) they don't need to be high quality. I was thinking directory submission would be the best bet. What do you guys think?

I have been building all my backlinks withe the same anchor text and so far I've been watching my site go up in the SERPs though it is still nowhere near the first page but I dont think it is hurting my site.
Thats exactly what has happened to me, i have better links then my competitors, more links in terms of anchor text, yet i sit in positions like 19-40
Should i continue to build new backlinks or start a new project (rank for a new keyword) because now its a waiting game.

Go ahead and alter the anchor text a little if you're worried. Find another keyword you want to rank for and use it a few times. Otherwise don't worry and keep building links.

No need to worry on back links with the same anchor text.. Just read the threads here.. I think majority will agree that you should use your targeted anchor text/s in back linking. Good luck..

Well, it is good to have a little variation in anchor text of your website but make sure to have your targeted keywords always in your anchor text.

Just vary your anchor text but retain your main keywords. Done naturally this would look like the following........

    About Promotional Pens
    Great Value Promotional Pens
    Plastic Promotional Pens
    Printed Promotional Pens
    Quotes On Promotional pens

etc. If you notice in this example, all the phrases have promotional pens in them so it looks natural but tells Google... THIS SITE IS ABOUT PROMOTIONAL PENS so they'll rank you accordingly.

I always recommend a little variation and if a site is really good. I don't even turn down a link with no anchor text. No natural linking would result in the exact same anchor text all the time. Besides if you do good keyword research you will want to be targeting more than one anchor text combination anyway.

I've been using wordpress seo all in one plugin, and then checking with MS to see if the website/page ticks the boxes for title, url, description and header for the keyword im targetting

Don't change your anchor text just for the sake of it. Only use anchor text for keywords that your article targets. The variation you get by targeting multiple keywords within one article (one url) will give you all the anchor text variation that you need. You are wasting links by just choosing anything else, even one word off an exact phrase that you want to rank for is causing inefficiency.

You won't get penalized but neither shall your site progress with this approach. Diversify (I should go as far as suggesting slipping in here and there couple of "click here"s).

If you're using anchor text for monetary reasons, consider is that Google keeps track of websites that try to rank for high competitive in the organic listings rather then paying for adwords campaigns.

The action taken agains these players is also dictated by monetary reasons

like others have said, change it up a little bit, but don't stress out too much

  • Getting number of backlinks with a single anchor text will not hurt you unless you are not using some automation software or submitting your site to too many websites or blogs and all.

Make sure that your links approach is moderate without getting links from useless sites.

How does search engine know if you are using automated software? Also it's not about how many links you get in short time period but more about where do you get them. Just think about what happens when your site goes viral. You'll get tons of backlinks in very short period but you won't get penalized for it, quite opposite.

I think what you meant to say was that if you use automation tool, don't be stupid and use it wisely

Make sure that your links approach is moderate without getting links from useless sites.
This is good but I think it's even better when it's combined with steady flow of links.

Lots of good advice already given here; I would add that when you diversify your anchor text, you may want to make it relevant... for example if your original anchor text is "electric razor" then you could use "razor" or "cordless razor" or even "cordless electric razor"

I would use these before I start using generic ones like "more information here" or "click here"
