penalty 15 years ago still damaging website?

Hi I work on a website that had a penalty in 2009 and recovered 2010 Since then all is good and it's a trusted website but since then not really pushed for fear that a site with penalty in the past is not worth it

Question? How can I check a website for a potential penalty in the last 15 years?

Would you make seo effort for a website with a penalty in its history? Thank u

    Thats a good question. I think a past penalty (especially one from over a decade ago) does not mean a site is doomed or unworthy of SEO.

    I don't think there is a tool to get a 15-year penalty history.

    I know you can go to Search Console and go to Manual Actions and it will show if you have any current penalties, however it won't show any pervious penalties. If there's nothing there now, you're clear.

    There's no official way to check that far back - GSC history is limited, and penalty reports from that time aren't available.
    You can only go by the site's current state: no manual actions in GSC, a healthy search traffic graph, no strange drops (especially after Google updates) - if that's the case, then everything's fine.

    And yes, I would absolutely invest in a site like that. What matters is the current momentum and quality, not the "karma" from 2009.
    For Google, what's happening on the site today is far more important than what happened 15 years ago.
