So Docstoc and Slidshare links count as backlinks?

I know that those two sites allow links embedded in the documents, which is great if you're using the document itself as a tool to drive traffic.

But if you don't care about the traffic coming from that site, and are just looking for backlinks, do those links get seen by the SEs, or are they invisible to them?

    The sites appear to be pretty heavily spammed with docs, so I am guessing the answer is "yes".

      dosctoc is nofollow, Yes the links in the docs are clickable
      If I'm not mistaken, nofollow links still count as backlinks, just without passing the link juice. But just because they are clickable doesn't mean that Google recognizes the anchor text as a backlink, right?

    I don't think they get counted as links. But they're still useful for traffic because document sharing sites tend to rank well.

      For Slideshare specifically, as a test, I went to there to find slide decks that were clearly spammy. I followed the links to the website, then used Yahoo Site Explorer for that site to see inbound links.

      I tried this with a handful of sites from SlideShare, and in no case did I ever see Slideshare counted as a backlink.

      Has anyone actually seen, in either YSE or Google Webmaster Tools, a backlink from a hyperlink within SlideShare?
