I learnt gaining too many links in a day can get you site sandboxed by Google. Am currently contemplaing using article distribution service that can give me about 150 links in a day. Isn't that going to spell doom for my ranking. What do you recommend?

I routinely submit a different article each day to about 400 article directories 4-5 days a week. You're fine.

Don't listen to everything you hear. Building links too fast is nearly impossible, and most would argue just a myth, 150 a day is nothing.

Do you submit the same article to those directories, or are they spun?

I was under the impression that search engines dont favour to greatly on duplicate content being spread around?

I do both. I haven't found any problem with using the same article, but I do a lot of spun articles as well just in case someday Google changes their rules.

If Google hated duplicate articles so much, major news sites would get penalized all the time for publishing the same articles from The Associated Press.

You've got to think how many backlinks G finds each and every day...do you think 150 would even register on their radar? What if my wine club is featured on the Today Show? I guarantee I build more then 150 every day over the next week or two.

There are many schools of thought on link building volume, and there are many variables to consider (such as the age of your site), so you will need to wade through all the opinions.

One thing that doesn't get discussed a lot is sustained link velocity. If you get to a point where you are building several hundred links per week (give or take, since google doesn't find all of them immediately), you may want to consider sustaining that effort. We conducted an experiment on two new sites earlier this year, where we aggressively built links to both sites. As expected, both rose up the serps. Then we abruptly terminated link building on one of the sites. In under a week, that site began to drop down the serps, and then took a huge dive. The control site continued its slow march up the serps. Anyway, this is but one experiment, and I'm sure others have their experiences to share as well.

If your site is new one, this may occur. However, If you can get 150 (as you mentioned above) backlinks daily basis. That issue will not be there.

It wont penalize as we have used this a lot in the past. However, its not the most effective way to boost your rankings if you talk about getting listed in loads of article directories...Google is too smart nowadays to filter those links out and they wont count....

I don't think all the site would post the articles right away anyway... some take weeks to approve them.
