If I purchase a PR4 domain (with no website) and I redirect it to my domain/website being a PR0, will my website eventually in the short term receive an automatic PR4 ranking?

You have to use a 301 redirect for that. It will help you to pass all the link juice and PR from the old domain to the new one.

In theory your new domain should become a PR4 too after a few weeks to a few months.
BUT depending on the content of your new site and the inner-linking between your pages your PR might drop.

To ensure you keep the same PR use the Internet Archive: Wayback Machine to find how many pages and what kind of interlinking was used by the previous master to achieve this PR. And do your best to do at least as well as what he did.

Here is how to do a 301 redirect:

Add a .htaccess file at the root of your old domain and write those lines:

    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://yournewdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
