How many keywords is appropriate in a Google PPC campaign, I've heard numbers kicked around 10,000 but i'm not sure if this helps or hurts a PPC campaign. Should it be niched or just put out there as much as possible?

    Hi davison,

I have many that approach that number.

All your keywords should be extremely relevant to your landing page offer. The number of long tail keywords for some niches can be quite large. You should test as many as you can find, be it 10 or 10,000.

It depends on how many landing pages and products that you offer. I would start a little smaller than that to make sure the basics is working before going so big. Find out what works and then expand from there. If you start too big too early your quality score can go down drastically and once it does in the beginning it is hard to gain it back again for the whole campaign as is will affect all the other campaigns that you set up negatively....

I think the absolute limit is 50,000 keywords per campaign. However, instead of blindly adding 1000s of keywords, you'd see more success by breaking groups of similar keywords down into smaller ad groups. Then write targeted ads based on the keywords within each group.

Do you mean how many keywords appropriate per campaign? or is it how many keywords an account can hold?

As far as I know a new account may hold of 10.000 kw, but Google will gradually increase the limit based on your history (spending) with Adwords.

As how many keywords appropriate for a campaign, it really depends on how you set your campaigns.

What I do is, I group my keywords as tight as possible in one adgroup. then next group of keywords in other adgroups, then the next..... This way I can craft the ads as specific as possible, which in the end will earn me higher CTR.
Note: Some of my adgroups may contain only the phrase and match only.

I have my own system of arranging adgroups in a campaign, but yes, you will want to group your adgroups in a campaign based on a niche/topic you are targeting.

    Hope that help

Once again, Don said it best. There is no appropriate number. If you can only come up with 10 keywords, go with them. If you have 10 000, use them too as long as they are all relevant. As suggested, best to group them in some logical fashion. A group can only have 2000 keywords max. That includes all match types and negatives, paused keywords and I believe deleted keywords too. And since you can have a maximum of 2000 groups per campaign and a max of 25 campaigns, it is possible to have an account with 100 million keywords.
