Relevant Adsense ads...

Ok, I know you need enough content for the bot to figure out what ads to display...

I know it takes a couple weeks for the bot to update with proper ads...

I also know about target sectioning using the following code:

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->
<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
<!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->
<!-- google_ad_section_end(weight=ignore) -->

If I am missing anything let me know...

I thought I was doing a good job on getting relevant ads, but I didn't realize how poorly my ads were until I stumbled upon this random search engine (or whatever it is). After I search www-mydomain-com (using dashes since I can't post links) you will see google ads that display on the right...

What drives me nuts, is that the ads displayed are all relevant and better than the ones that show on my sites! I've searched many of my other sites, and multiple times ALL four ads are my exact keyword phrase! But for whatever reason, I can't get that same level of laser targeted relevancy to display on my sites... If only I could, my ctr would go from 'good' to 'through the roof'!

If any other warriors want to test it out and report back I'd be interested in seeing if results are similar. Here's the link, just replace 'test' with the domain you want to try:

www-zimbio-com/search?q=www-test-com
(again, replace the dashes with dots)

  • They look at incoming and outgoing links as well to determine what your content is about.

    Try creating some incoming links to a specific page with specific keyword text.

    And Google does in fact use Geotargeting from IP's so the ads you see will not be the same as someone from another area.

    Ad to this the fact that Google is using tracking cookies to display ads based on users previous browsing behaviors and it's pretty hard to say what is really displaying on the browsers of the users you are targeting.

    • I just remembered reading about toggling on/off 'Interest-based Ads Preference' & 'Third Party Ads Preference'... I wonder if this will make a big difference.
  • The Adsense Wealth Empire guys used a script or code around their google ads to make the ads more relavant. It was a simple, one line of code. I don't think it was black hat, but it made all of the ads laser targeted for each keyword per each page. Anyway, I believe this code is on a Google help page for Adsense, so I would look there.

    • It was already mentioned but google recently changed their ad selecting algorithms to display ads based on the user's browsing preferences/history. So if you have been visiting a bunch of similar sites which have nothing to do with your niche, when you check your ads you will probably have affected what google will display.

      Wish you could turn that off...
