My ads are getting low cpc

So all of my site I started are doing well. I'm getting ok traffic, and getting a nice number of clicks. However, my cpc has been extremely low. I usually pick niches around the $1 cpc category(so I assumed I was getting $0.50-$0.90 a click), yet I'm only getting $0.20-$0.30 clicks. Is there anything I can do improve the numbers? Should I start gunning for keywords with at least a cpc of 3 dollars? Thanks in advance.

    When you say you "usually pick niches around the $1 cpc category" I assume you are talking about CPC for AdWords Search Network bids. You should keep two things in mind: 1. You ads come through the Content Network which is typically much lower CPC than the Search Network; 2. The more ad units you display, the lower the average bids will be.

    If you are getting $0.20 - $0.30 CPC on niches that have $1.00 (Search Network) CPCs then you are about where you should expect to be.

    While you may be able to improve your CTR by tweaking your display options and layout. To improve CPC you can reduce the number of ad units and limit your promotional efforts to precisely targeted traffic sources.
