Always ping the URL with your backlinks on it. Social bookmarking can work sometimes, too. And if you're really into it, set up an RSS feed (I use Ice Rocket) and add the URL's where your backlinks appear, and submit the feed to aggregators. Oh, then ping those URL's.

I forgot, you can also set up link cascades... where you set up backlinks to the URL's that have your other backlinks.

    OK, now my head hurts.

Zeus, thanks for the IceRocket tip. Hey, do you know of any software that will find all the backlinks G missed and auto-ping them?

Here is what I do every time I create a profile page for backlinks.

Step 1 - Ping the page through a bunch of aggregators.

Step 2 - Use Bookmarking Demon to bookmark the page.

Step 3 - Once I've created 20 profiles, I collate them into an RSS feed using Ice Rocket and submit the feed to aggregators using RSS Bot. I also bookmark the RSS feed in Bookmarking Demon.

Step 4 - Once some time has passed, I use Andy Black's mass URL index checker to see which of my profiles are indexed. I then collate a list of the ones that aren't.

Step 5 - With the list of url's that are not indexed, I create a Web 2.0 property and use PLR content with a link to my profile at the bottom. I then ping and bookmark the Web 2.0 property.

I'm beta testing a link wheel software at the moment so step 5 is automated, however, you can just use Blogger, Squidoo, Xanga or whatever your Web 2.0 property of choice is.

Many thanks to all, especially P Jackson. I will follow your plan. For anyone looking for an easy/free way put the urls into an rss, I came across hostmyrss, I think it's called.
