Hi,

I have recently registered Three domains for a serious business. I mean, I am going to make Three websites on them and I do not have any intention of website flipping. I want to run them for as long as I can.

So, my question is:

Should I register the domains for more than one year (2,3 or more) for SEO?

Or this does not affect SEO and website rankings?

Kindly, tell me what should I do?

Thanks
momi.

From what I've observed it doesn't make a significant difference. One thing I have noticed is that some people pushing this idea seem to have a financial motive for doing so.

Of course, if you're planning a long term branding project it will make sense to go ahead to purchase the domains long term.

While there is no conclusive evidence, many people like to believe it is very good to renew your domain for at least 3 years and helps boost your rankings. It is especially good for new domains because it provides a quicker exit from Google sandbox - something that happens very often for new sites.

I have most of my domains on annual renewal for more than 3 years already and i have not noticed anything unusual in terms SEO. Some of them are even on the top of the SERP for a particular keyword.

Take it for what its worth. I think Matt is being a little evasive on some points but I don't think how long you are registered for has much weight.

not necessarily.. when you have setup the whole business and everything goes well then you can renew them on year end for as long as you like. Your domain is with you so no one can take it untill expires.
So once you are set with everything then only go for more years
