Does anyone know if having an SSL Certificate and a Better Business Bureau credit helps for SEO? Also, anyone have experience with getting a higher conversion for having it on the page?

    I can vouch for the BBB accreditation as far as increases conversions. I have a B2B e-commerce site and at least 1 out of 20 callers mentions the fact that I have the BBB seal on the website. I have to imagine that several also feel comfort in the BBB approval but don't mention it.

    As far as the SSL cert, I'm fairly certain you have to have that on your site if you are accepting credit cards via a shopping cart. It's not an option. I haven't had one person comments on my SSL seal and just assume they have no clue what it means. BBB however, is a widely recognized and highly regarded brand. I think even more so if your customers are in an older age group. Depending on your product, if you were targeting the 60+ crowd, the BBB seal would convert much higher than on twenty-somethings.

      Yeah they charge a fee. It depends on what city you are in...I'm in San Diego and they charge $350.00 per year.

    I thought about paying for the BBB when I started my company 8 months ago. Really I never had any problem getting business without it. After my clients talk with me for a few minutes I'm able to gain their trust with my knowledge. I'm sure if you are a strong sales person that knows a lot about what you are selling, you won't need something like a BBB logo to back you up. The BBB can also bite you in the butt if some angry client complains and leaves bad comments. They also start you out with a B grade instead of an AAA. You have to stay with them for at least a year before they bump your score up. So starting out as a B is not worth the money to me. Hit the thanks button if that helped.

    I think I'm going to go with turbohips. I don't have any problem with conversions and customer trust. I know google is trying to find ways to rank reputable sites to give the browser better results and just wondered if this is something they take into account.

    I did somewhat look into this subject for a while. Google only likes paid links from sites that actually investigates a site for quality. Now the BBB does give follow links but there is certainly no quality control on their part as they take your money and post a link. Certainly not something that Google likes. Again we are only talking about one link coming from a not so important site. With that in mind it would be better to spend that money on a outsourced worker to build you a 1000 links instead from high PR sites. My 2 cents. Good luck in you new year.

      Becoming a member of the BBB and displaying the emblem (and linking!) helps SEO for sure, I'm not convinced on conversions though. However, if your site is in SSL, you'll most definitely have higher conversions than without it!

      I would consider becoming a member of your local Chamber of Commerce- it seems to help local SEO if you link to them... and heck, if you actually participate, they may even link to you!!

      Are you inquiring for an e-commerce site?

    My experience with local chamber of commerce sites is that they also charge you for having a link and more likely than not, they have a somewhat low PR. Not worth the money in my opinion. Now again with the BBB, you will get only one link that is do follow and purely for SEO purposes not worth the money as they are also a low PR site with 1000's of members leaching away the link juice.
