Link Building Question

I have a site being designed/programmed and we are hoping for a March launch. The domain name is purchased but nothing is up yet. My question is, can I start putting links on blogs etc now even though the site is not up yet?

Or should I put up a page describing what the site is and say it is still under construction with a anticipated launch date in March and then backlink?

  • I would at at least put up a lead capture page with some content that has to do with what your site is going to be about. Will help you even when you launch as well. Then start building those backlinks.
  • You don't want to start building backlinks to a non existing page. Search engines don't like that.
I agree, a lead capture page is very easy to put together, and has great benefits.
  • Yes a lead capture is the least I would do. You could put up a bit of content and monetize it a little for now, then change it over when you are ready to.
  • Lead capture, or even a coming soon is a good idea. Start building links now, especially profile links because those can take a while to get indexed.
  • No, I would not start backlinking to a page that is not up and functional on the web.
  • First lanuch your site and then build links.
  • at least get some temporary content up before you just build links! A rough site is fine, but I would not go crazy till the site is fully launched.
  • It is advisable to setup the your main content page as well as meta tag, keyword information before you get backlinks to your site.
